I just got back from a trip through Tahoe and Reno June 3-8. Tahoe
is so beautiful I don't know why anyone would go into a casino but I
did. I just could not pass up on the free pulls and coupons offers.
Anyway I did want to mention I could not find the quarter 9/6 JOB
prog machines at the Horizon Casino in Tahoe. I only saw dollar
progressives but didn't bother to check if they were 9/6 JOB.
The .25 cent 9/6 JOB 4700 royal machines in the Horizon are
scattered throughout the casino. I sat down to play one, only to
see that the screen was so burned out that you could not tell the
difference in the color of the cards.
I did find some quarter 9/6 JOB machines in Bill's casino in Tahoe.
They had a row of 9/6 JB machines near the front window. These
machines are ancient. They don't have bill feeders and only take
coins. There is another group of quarter JOB machines near the
Blues Bar that take bills.
I liked Bill's until I went to check my points on my Harrah's card
(Harrah's recenlty aquired Bill's) only to find out that the Bill's
had not completely changed over to Harrah's new card. If you put
one of your Harrah's cards in the slot card reader the computer
reads "accepted," but does not compile any points. The slot card
manager said it was a glitch in the system. They could have post
some signs or something. Put me down as another victum of the evil
empire (Harrahs).
Some of the casinos in the Tahoe area are like living gambling
museums. Many of the machines are quite old and out dated. I think
all the Las Vegas video poker machines and slots retire to Tahoe.
It was fun to go down memory lane and see all the old slot
machines. Many of these casinos such as the Tahoe Biltmore are low
roler paradise. They feature numerous nickle and penny machines.
Stayed at the Reno Hilton for the last night of our vacation.
Confirmed all the games that are missing in action. I played the
8/5 Bonus Poker quater progressive. Man, what a slow prog that
was. I was there mostly by myself and about every three hands a
penny was added to the progressive. I played about five hours and
maybe $10 was added to the prog. All the four of kinds and the
straight flush have progressives. The straight flush progressive
was at the $164 when I quit.
We also went downtown to take advantage of some free offers. The
Club Cal-Neva was kind of scary. It smelled like the Kalamazoo
Greyhound Bus Station. For those of you have not been to the
Kalamazoo Bus Station it reaks of urine of greasy food.
But I could see the charm of Cal-Nevada with the 99 cent food
specials and the like. Also stopped at Fitzgeralds downtown which
was nice but there sure are some interesting gamblers in downtown
Reno. Some looked as though they just gambled the last dollar to
their name and were ready to pawn their clothes.
Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed Reno. The people are really friendly
and it is easier to get around than Las Vegas. The Reno Hilton's
pool actually had a deep end of 12'. I also liked that Reno was a
cool 75 degrees compared to the 100 degree temperatures in Vegas.
Tahoe had perfect weather while I was there. Bright sun shine of 75
degrees and cool nights in the 50s and 60s(great sleeping weather).
I'll definelty have to visit the Reno-Tahoe area again.
