Reno/Sparks TR

Hi Frank,

Thanks for yet another GREAT trip report! I especially enjoy your restaurant & hotel reviews and details of your coupon runs.

My husband & I did a similiar trip to yours, a few years back. We drove from Portland to LA, by way of Crater Lake National Park & the Redwood Forests ( both of which amazed us & filled us with AWE).

We did stumble upon a casino along the way. In some remote area of Oregon, as we were deciding to stop for for the night, we chanced upon the the "Seven Feathers Casino", a native Indian establishment.

Since we were tired of driving, we went inside to speak the desk clerk and inquire about accomodations for the evening. The very nice desk person willingly showed us a room. We immediately decided that it was considerably nicer than most LV mid-level strip hotel rooms. The rate? $80.00 per night. We immediately booked the room, and went to the nice coffee shop for a tasty repast.

After dinner, I joined the slot club and also inquired about the amount of action required for a comped room. I don't remember what they told me, but do recall that I didn't think that that there was a chance I'd play off the room, as the best game available was a non-prog. 8/5 JOB.

I determined I would NOT invest more than one twenty in those dogs. Of course, I won, and won AND WON! Quad after quad! I wound up ahead by about $125. before I collapsed into bed.

The next morning, before checking out, I inquired whether my play had qualified us for a room discount. After checking with a host, the clerk smiled and replied, "Your stay is comped. Come see us again soon!" Who needs FPDW!!

Thanks for the pleasant memories!

How's Max, the Schipperke?

Best regards,

Babe

If you are ever through this area again be sure and stop at Sylvia's bar and casino. It's just off of I-5 in Winchester, Oregon, about 30 miles north of Seven Feathers. Just joking- It's actually called Winchester Deli and although we won't have the casino atmosphere and variety of games that Seven Feathers does, we will have a few Video Poker machines and great sandwiches, local wines, and a good variety of beer. The video poker will be the state lottery type, random but not full pay. We won't be getting them for about 6 months. This endeavor has kept me off of the VP lists and away from Las Vegas for several months until this last weekend when we squeezed in a quick trip. We sold our condo in Las Vegas for a very nice profit and we are putting it in to this new business. We figured it was the only way to make money on gambling in Oregon! I am slowly catching up on posts. I was surprised at the changes in Las Vegas in the short period of time that we were away. The Palms was the biggest disappointment with the loss of the 3 and 5 play NSUD. Also my husband got some free play from Bellagio for his birthday and I could not find a thing to play.

---------------Hi Babe - thanks for remembering Max-the-Schipperke.
He really enjoyed his stay in the Alligator Alley section of the
kennel. According to the report card we received at discharge, Max
played hard, ate well and barked a lot - what more can you ask of
vacation?

PS: as a member of their frequent stay club, Max earned a free night
this trip.

Hi Sylvia,

The BEST of luck to you in your new enterprize. I hope that the
Winchester Deli is a smashing success! You are certainly moving to
a beautiful part of the country; a far cry from the desert of LV.

We are from the Chicago area but have traveled extensively in the
glorious western part of the US. If we ever wander into Oregon
again, we will certainly look for Winchester on the map, and pop in
to say hello.

If you decide to frequent the 7 Feathers Casino, I hope that many
royals grace your screen. You'll surely need them to overcome the EV
on 8/5JOB!

Babe

I'm glad that Max enjoyed himself while you & Mrs. Westie were doing
your trip.

I do have a couple of questions for Max:

1. How did the Alligators taste?
2. Did the kennel provide FP VP?
3. Is Food/Beverage included in Max's room comp?

Thanks for the info!

1. How did the Alligators taste?

---------------per his room service charges Max prefers
chateaubriand, kobe beef and chilean seabass.

2. Did the kennel provide FP VP?

---------------No, but he does not play VP or slots. His preferred
games are craps, preferrably on the neighbors lawn, or Red Dog.

3. Is Food/Beverage included in Max's room comp?

-------------Yes except when he orders chateaubriand, kobe beef or
chilean bass. You did not ask but Max's is partial to second growth
Bordeaux wines such as Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande
or Chateau Leoville Las Cases.

I do hope that the beef was prepared properly, and served

suitably tender and rare, with a nice Bearnaise sauce.

My Freddie enjoyed craps as well, but his favorite game

site was the white carpeting in the living room.

Max is definitely a wine connoisseur. I would certainly

agree with his informed selection of reds. He does have rather
expensive tastes, however. Were he my pup, I might require that
he have his room service orders pre-approved by my CPA! ( - :
