I spent 3-8 through 3-12 in Reno and checked out several casinos. I
stayed at the Eldorado, in a small room on the fourth floor that was
very convenient to the casino, but had absolutely no view. The
following is a brief casino rundown, providing a few impressions and
noting any variations to what is posted on the VPFree databases. (For
reference, I'm a low roller and play at the quarter level.)
Atlantis: Very nice casino, nice atmosphere, pretty much as advertised
in VPFree. Played 10/7 DB progressives and 9/6 JOB 50 play. Good to
average drink service. I enjoyed the oyster bar.
Siena: Small, friendly place. Fast, new machines. Comfy seats. Good
drink service and a nice coupon book for new slot club members. Played
10/7 DB.
Eldorado: Well-maintained casino. I found 10/7 DB on the second floor
across from the Brew Brothers. Lousy to average drink service.
Silver Legacy: Starting to look a little sad around the edges. Lousy
to average drink service. Played the DW progressives, but those stools
are incredibly uncomfortable for long term play.
Peppermill: Smokey, noisy, busy place on Saturday afternoon. Average
drink service. Played 20/7 JW.
Cal Neva: Provides an interesting contrast to the Siena down the
street. Noisy, gritty, boisterous place. I played the nickel 10/7 DB
triple play on the second floor. Good drink service. I liked the cheap
food, getting the $1.50 beer and hotdog deal and the $.99 breakfast.
Nugget (Sparks): A disappointment. I couldn't find any $.25 FP VP. The
best DB was 9/7 in the multigames near the NW doors. I played 9/6 JOB
with a 4700 royal. I didn't get the royal, but the drink service was
fantastic.
