Reno Peppermill

Just ended three day visit and can confirm that VP has been degraded
as badly as others have reported. Especially disappointed to see all
dollar 10/7 DB is history. Best available game seems to be
progressive 10 coin JOB which resets to $9400 royal and is frequently
over $10,000. All the machines are TITO (much more convenient than
the old coin clunkers), great graphics, and quite speedy. So you can
lose your dough more comfortably and a lot faster. And if glaring
purple neon is your thing, the PEP is your VP heaven.

Seems to me that there could have been a better way for management to
counter the growing competition from the California casinos than to
lower all VP paytables, but I'm no Harvard MBA so what do I know?

On the positive side, they still have excellent wooden matches in the
VIP room and the coffee and pastries in there are pretty good as
well. Maybe that evens things out.

I never thought I'd say this, but a three hour drive to the Borgata
is looking a lot smarter than a six hour flight to anywhere in
Nevada. As soon as sanity starts prevailing in the airlines so that
$200 RT's are no longer available, my frequent flyer days are over.

Back to the PEP, I did (unfortunately, as it turned out) find a few
fiveplay multistrikes which had full pay SDB at nickles, dimes and
quarters. Also had FP JOB. I had my laptop with Winpoker and Strategy
Master and spent a couple of hours developing and copying strategy
cards for SDB. The machines are conveniently right in front of the
cashier's cage so I didn't have to walk far each time I needed a new
marker. A better strategy would have been to stick with the
progressive JOB.

BTW, I strolled over to the Atlantis which still has most of their
(now) much better VP. However (administrator note), if you were
planning a trip to Reno for the sole purpose of playing 10 cent 10/7
spinpoker in the seafood bridge, stay home. She's a goner.

Are there still the 10/7 DB in $5 at the bar?

I stayed at the Peppermill last week, too, and I'm very disappointed
at the reduction in inventory. The last group of upright progressive
10/7 DB dollar machines are now 9/6 DDB. Strictly Slots can take
their "Certified Loose Slots" award and.... I went intending to play
the new 5-play MS machines, which I did. I had great success playing
NSUD for dimes at $10/hand. There are quite a few decent games on
those machines: 9/6 JOB, NSUD, 9/6 Bonus Dlx, SDB, and Deuces Wild
Bonus. I have been a regular customer at Peppermill for about 8
years, but if this is all that's left I'll play someplace else.
Boomtown, anyone?

Jean, you must be talking about the Fish Bar, and I didn't look there.
I also didn't check the Oceano Bar which is listed as having $2 10/7 DB.

The machines at the high limit bar do not all have the same pay
tables. 9/6 JOB $5 prog is still there (I think on a bunch of
machines). There is still $1,$2,$5 10/6 DDB but not on every machine
at the bar. There is 10/7 DB at all 3 limits as well. There is a
bank of machines with 10/7DB and 10/6 DDB in the high limit area, but
not at the bar. These are slant tops (I am not sure if these are
linked to the $5 JOB). The NSUD $1 progressives in the alcove outside
the fishbar frequently gets positive as well.

The still have quarter 10/7 DB progressives at this alcove as well.
PMill is far from a wasteland, but you might have to change what you
used to play. The bars, excepting the high limit bar, from what I
remember have been downgraded, as well as the multistrike, but I can
still find plenty to play there.
