We went to Reno and surrounding areas one time. We really liked it
a lot........loved the old style towns like Virginia City.
Problem? Try to find a convenient direct route from the East
coast. Not available. A day is just about wasted getting there
and then coming home. Our trips are only four days long on the
average. So this is an option that we wish we could take but we
can't bring ourselves to losing a portion of the trip to the
flights.........................

Hi Itchy,
I can tell by your address that at least one casino flea got
to you! <G>
I know exactly what you mean about the ridiculously long trip
to Reno. Coming from Chicago (O'Hare) to Reno, on most airlines,
requires at least one plane change. On United, my airline of choice,
the aircraft change is either in Denver or San Francisco. Although
there are many UAL flights to those destinations, there are a dearth
of connection flights to Reno. So, either you take too short a
connection time and chance missing the 2nd flight, or you accept a 2-
3 hour layover. I have read that American now has a non-stop from
O'Hare to Reno, and I may try them next time.
Have you searched the web for non-stops from the East Coast?
Sometimes the smaller, start-up airlines schedule n/s flights to
break into a market.
BTW, if you do get to Reno again, since you enjoy "old style towns",
I recommend a drive to Truckee. It is about an hour's drive from
Reno over mostly divided lane highway.
Truckee is an old railroad town. Some structures from the late
1800's are still standing. There are many interesting shops with
unusual merchandise. There is also a very excellent restaurant in
the old Railroad Inn Hotel. They serve an outstanding Caesar Salad.
In any event, despite the hassle of the trip, I do fly to Reno 2-3
times every year. I have always felt that the difficulty in getting
there was mitagated by the pleasure of being able to play the
excellent VP inventory available.
