Reno - Jan 1-5

I just posted a trip report at vpFree-Reno.

Those (14) $1 FPDW were still at the Reno Silver Legacy Jan 5.
[So payoff the OVER on the Jan 5 Over/Under line. ]
They were never Full during the day and almost empty from Midnite
thru - breakfast. Bright display, fast play setting, mechanics
will even adjust them for you.
IF requested, they were even toggling ON the AUTO-HOLD feature (!!)
Has anyone seen this practice in Nevada before?
I know the machines have them, but maybe the Silver Legacy was just
experimenting.

I brought home money this trip due to:
one .25 BP prog Royal (1035) and
one very friendly $1 DDB machine that DEALT ME Quad A's with a kicker
TWICE within 8 hrs for +2K each time. Just had to carefully hit
the five hold buttons: no advanced strategy required.

Cheers,

A few years ago at the Reno Peppermill they installed some IGT Game
Kings with FPDW that had the autohold feature. While the autohold
strategy was not perfect, the errors did not seem to be major ones.
The only basic strategy error I recall was that it held all suited
connectors (including 34,45,56) with one or two deuces. Other than
that, I think all errors were penalty card situations, eg. the
machine would hold all one deuce WRF3's including Ace high. While I
didn't write down all the deviations and compute the machine strategy
ER, my gut feeling was that the return exceeded 100%. They were fun
to play because you could play them real fast, but it was also easy
to inadvertently make an error by playing the autohold. When I
visited six months later, not only had the autohold feature been
removed, but all .25 FPDW games were history as well.
I suggest that knowledgeable players ask the Silver Legacy slot techs
to turn off the autohold feature on the new machines or the "bad"
players will play the game to too great an advantage and the pay
schedules will be altered.

1) doesn't hold inside straight draws
2) as stated by vpfreee it will hold suited connectors down to 34,46,45,etc
3) it will hold 3 card A high WRF draw even with flush penalty
4) will hold 789s instead of 88
5) will hold 4 card inside straight flush draw with deuce instead of trips

The AutoHold strategy was always correct when holding 1 (lone deuce),
2 (pair) or pat hand.

I have played deuces with the AutoHold and find it faster and easier.

I agree with your advice.

And it sounds like the same fairly good auto-hold strategy is being
used on these.

[MAYBE one of our Reno local contributors will take the time to audit
the auto-hold in more detail for us.(?)]

The auto-hold was only toggled ON on two of the 14 machines when I
was there Jan 1-5. One of these two machines was "reserved" for one
particular couple, it was turned off "Out of Service" when they were
away, except late at night. I'd never seen this on a VP machine at
the Silver before. But it was not a factor as there was always an
machine available. Most players were asking the techs to turn the
sound DOWN and/or the Speed UP. I don't think many were asking for
or even knew about the AUTO-HOLD feature.
