Subject: Reno Hilton comps
Went to Reno for the air races this past weekend and stayed at the
Reno Hilton. I had no history there, but I sent an e-mail to a host
who checked my play at Caesar's Tahoe, and he comped the room upfront
based upon that. Because I was rather busy, and I didn't have a lot
of time to play, I jumped my average bet up so I could get $60k (20k
per night) through without staying up all night playing. When I
checked out, they wouldn't comp about $130 in what they called a
gourmet restaurant. I asked how much play it took to get that comped
and was told that since I only played 6 hours, they couldn't pick it
up. Had I played the same coin-in over a longer period of time (like
12 hours), they would have covered it. Seems like a strange way to
run a railroad. >>>
This is a wrong-headed policy that should be explained up front instead of
at the end of a trip.
A few yrs ago, ran into a similar problem at another CE property, Flamingo
Laughlin. Since I was short of the 4 hrs/day ave they wanted, received
room-comp only. I definitely had enough coin-in so I asked them if they wanted to
trade less coin-in for more hrs. They said it was policy. On subsequent trips,
I converted from a .25 50-play to playing 2/3 single line .25 in order to put
in the hrs they wanted. But I went one step further & cut back to room comp
only status (at that time $2K/day). Former coin-in was $20K/day. They noticed
but then got well-established at other casinos so haven't been back in a
while.
Recommend you try asking again & suggest that your play would have covered
meal at downtown casinos. It may have been a case where your comp level may
not have included the high-end restaurants, in which case that would have been
an acceptable explanation. If it really was the 4 hr/day ave that did you in,
then it's time to try elsewhere.
BTW, have had this 4 hr/day ave excuse thrown at me by Strip casinos. In
just about every case, I cut back on denomination in order to meet the time
requirement. Surprisingly, there doesn't seem to be any affect on the offers.
A way to combat this stupid policy is to stick your slot card in the
machines next to you & play them very slowly. In effect, it doubles or triples your
playing time.
