Reno bus system & shopping malls along Virgina St.

I really enjoy public transit in Reno. If you plan to stay in the downtown
area which includes the university, there's a free bus that just stays in
the downtown area.

For seniors, bus rates were raised to $1 from 0.85 (probably 2 yrs ago) but
it didn't make any difference to me since I never had the change anyway.
First time, the driver asked me if I wanted a transfer, since I didn't know
what it was, I said no. On my return, an hr later, he said "See you should
have taken the transfer" & that's when I realized a transfer allows you to
continue the trip on another bus & he said it's good for up to 2 hrs.
Virginia St is all I've ever used it for but remember that Virginia St not only
has the downtown casino, Peppermill & Atlantis but further south is the
extensive shopping area, Meadowood Mall &, at the end of Virginia St, is the
upscale Summit Mall which doesn't have upscale prices now due to Reno's
difficulty in attracting visitors. One of the things that my wife discovered
over the years is that the selection & quality in these malls were as good or
better than the malls in the SF Bay Area & yet the prices were,
on-the-average, lower. From various casinos, we accumulated several thousand dollars
of Macy's gift cards which we used at a Macy's furniture store (across from
Meadowood Mall) & had a bed & dining room table drop-shipped to us. We
might have been able to do it locally but in Reno, we received service which
is hard to get in the crush of shoppers that you have in the Bay Area & it
was only a 5-minute drive from our hotel.

We stayed at Silver Legacy and left the 3 connected casinos only once, to
make a trip to Atlantis. We took the bus, and it worked out very well.
The stop is only a short walk from the Eldorado, and the buses seemed to be on
schedule.
