Regional VPfree sites

Fans of vpFREE,

I have been pondering why our (MVA) "most valued administrator" has
decided to "branch out". Why should a centralized site be
segmented...cut up like a piece of ageing quality cheese (or a fat
nightcrawler)?

It is true that his exploration (experiment) with other free hosting
sites has been abandoned recently. Maybe the fact that the site is
now banging it's head on the space limitations? Divide and still
survive?

Maybe he is considering the intimidation quotient? It can be
daunting to post nowadays, lurkers enjoy, but think twice. Sharing
local information with a bunch of locals, who know the landscape,
might produce more knowledge in the long run.

Maybe he is ready to plant seeds...hoping others locally will step
up. Maybe he is burnt out, it is now a burden instead of a
pleasure? It only has been 23 months since launching this ship, but
what a success...and a task! A hobby is now a job.

Just look at all the VP stuff that is available at your fingertips
from the "home site". Anyone totally walk through it recently? It
takes hours. If it is brought to his attention, our MVA links us
right up...kooky or not.

I, for one, am amazed what has evolved. Anyone else have some
thoughts before the MVA, aka Tim Wins, or his lovely bride Sussanna
Wins jumps in?

Thanks for paying attention MVA..VP is more fun since you showed up!

There is absolutely no doubt of this in my mind, and the vpFREE
enterprise, I'm sure in the form of people who I am unaware in
addition to the names we are all familiar with, should be
congratulated for frequently tinkering with new ideas and seldom
coasting.

I've thought for a long time that additional regional forums
would be a good idea, and finally got around to setting them
up. I don't expect the new groups to have a negative effect
on vpFREE. Discussions will probably center around local
situations that wouldn't have been posted on vpFREE anyway.

It is true that his exploration (experiment) with other

I would love to find something better than Yahoo, but haven't
yet. SmartGroups looked promising but isn't the answer. I'll
continue looking.

I'm definitely not burnt out and have enough vpFREE projects on
the front and back burners to keep me interested and busy for a
long time. I am looking for DataBase assistance from volunteer
Casino Monitors, and I expect that the regional forums will be
a big help with updates for non-LV casinos.

I intend that the new forums will more or less run themselves, so
their viability is going to require proactivism from their members.
I hope that the vpFREE regionals will prove as successful and popular
as the Atlantic City Yahoo Group.

Has the administrator considered MSN Groups? They seem to be quite
popular but I don't know much about them.

When Yahoo first merged their clubs with their groups, a few of my
yahoo clubs moved over to MSN groups. I can only speak for myself,
but I Vastly Prefer Yahoo's format(and features) over MSN's.

One more question about the regional forums; specifically the AC one:

How can one expidite the process of moving from "pending member" to
full member(ship) there? I first "joined" acvpp nearly 2 weeks ago,
received and responded to the 2-question questionaire(sp), then
nothing. I'm still a "pending member" there, eagerly awaiting full
membership priviledges, and wondering how long it'll take.

Thanx!

I'd love to see some type of VP/Gambling forum started over at the
Network54 boards. I think the format there lends itself particularly
well to a group of this genre, since each topic forms it's own,
physically separate(d), thread.

For example: Being a novice VP player with a rather modest bankroll,
I'm "restricting" myself to JoB for now. Thus, I'm not yet
interested in(posts on or info about) other VP games, multi-strikes,
etc.

At some point tho, I will be ready to read those posts and to absorb
and use that info. I can't help but think that having those posts in
their own, physically separate(d), threads(ala Network54's format)
would make finding them in the archives MUCH easier than it's likely
to be here.

And that's just one example from one person here.

However, among group forums with similar formats to Yahoo groups, I
still think Yahoo's the best one. Yes, their clubs format was vastly
superior to their groups one, but their groups one still remains the
best of the lot.

Just my 2c tho.

One more question about the regional forums; specifically the AC one:

The AC group isn't under the vpFREE umbrella.

But, if Siona (the AC chief honcho) is willing, I'll play monopoly
with her and trade a couple of new forums (how about Trenton and Camden),
that I can set up, for Atlantic City. <G>

I would send an email to Siona (acvpp-owner@yahoogroups.com) and ask
her if there is a problem. Maybe your application or verification email
got sidetracked.

Thanks for the replacement suggestions. I'll look at them.

What I would really like is a software package that would
do what Yahoo does (combine email with web access) that
could be operated on a private system. I think I can get access
to a free server.

The latest version of Mailman, which is the right price (FREE)
may be a possibility, according to some limited information that
I've heard about it.

If anyone has any expertise in this area (I don't), input to me
privately will be appreciated.

Actually, there is a way to read messages by thread in Yahoo groups. On the
website, at the top just under search archives, is a button that says
thread. If you click on it, it will separate the messages by thread.

Really? That's too bad. I - for one - would really like to see an
AC group that IS "under the vpFREE umbrella" added to the other
recently-opened regional forums that are under it. Especially in
light of how tough it is(or has become) to get full membership in
the "non-umbrella'd" one.
