red rock canyon driving tour

I apologize for this off topic post. Four of us will be in LV the day
after Christmas and are wanting to tour RR Canyon. We plan to rent a
car and try to get directions from a Park Station (if one exists). Has
anyone done this, is four hours sufficient time to plan and would this
be advisable vs a regular tour?

Any suggestions, comments, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

tour?

Dick,
Red Rock is beautiful this time of year. There may even be a covering
of snow...be sure to dress warmly. To get to Red Rock, just take
Charleston west and it leads right into Red Rock. You'll have to pay
an entrance fee first and then go to the visitor center.

They should have a map of the park that comes with a description of
the hiking trails, how long and difficult they are, the 13 mile
scenic loop, etc. The first three stops on the loop are the best. The
first two are the ones where you can see the red rocks up close and
hike to them and do some rock climbing. The third stop is
the "quarry" where at one point in time there was an actual quarry
operation removing huge sandstone blocks.

The time it takes depends on how much climbing, hiking, etc. you guys
want to do. I would plan for a minimum of two hours. I don't know if
they have any "regular" tours...

Have a good time!!

I did the tour a couple year's ago. If all you do is drive, it's a one-way loop around the park. No way to get lost It costs about 5 buck's per carload and is real nice. Two hour's should be plenty.
My wife insisted on parking and taking a walk on one of the trail's. She wanted to burn up some calories from a big buffet breakfast. <g> The welcome center gave us a map showing where the trail's are.

We did this a couple years ago too. My hubby was driving, so I can't answer any questions about that, but I remember we only took a couple hours and we also walked one of the trails.

When I go to Red Rock Canyon I always use my Golden Age Passport for
free entry, for me and all guests in my car. This is a senior citizen
(62+) pass that can be purchased at National Parks. You might be able
to purchase it upon entry ... I forget the cost ... and it's good for
the rest of your life.
