I have always been a fairly low stakes player. Because of that, I have
never got much in the way of free play or offers. However several years
ago, I started get way more offers for rooms and some free play. I always
thought it was because of the recession - the casinos were desperate for
players and would make offers to get even low stakes players in the casinos.
I always thought that I would know when the recession ended because my
offers would come to a halt.
I continue to get quite a few room offers to the Peppermill. However, they
have reduced their comp rate is so much that it is virtually impossible for
a player like me to get comps.
I preferred the Atlantis because of their more player friendly attitude in
the past. However, about nine months ago, they put me into the expert
player category, which meant that I could still get free rooms and earn
comps, but received no offers. Sometime between January and early May of
this year, they got rid of my game, which was full pay video black jack.
Now all VBJ pays off at 1 to 1 for blackjacks instead of 3 to 2 (if you knew
the right machines). I guess the only exception is for VBJ at the full pay
kiosk, which offers nearly zero comps.
Therefore, it appears that I am mostly done in Reno also. The conclusion I
draw from all this is that the recession is close enough to over that the
casinos are weeding out less desirable players and concentrating on the
crowd that is willing to lose money to play.
