Recent offers from Reno joints

Gave Nugget ~$30K in VP action in September.

Received offer of 2 nights/week and $30 free play.

Gave Siena ~$300 in slot action.

Received offer of 2 nights (subject to availability) and $60 free play.

That seems an unusually week offer from Nugget … although might be consistent if you opt for NSUD play. I typically play Jacks, finding stronger comp earnings (which can be redeemed 2:1 as FP on last Wednesdays), and have been generally satisfied with the play prospects to the extent that I try to fit in a 1 or 2 night stay the couple of times a year I hit Reno from the east cost.

Re Siena, I had a brief flirtation. But as soon as I had a winning trip, they reduced me to $5 FP despite something on the order of a $30K ci day.

White Hot Aces was our game of choice having been advised to avoid LDW at Nugget.

If we stay there on our next Reno trip will switch to FPJB (if there still around).

Siena and Nugget will do just fine for roofs over our head now that Atlantis no-mailed us.

But t’is a long ride from Boston and Reno offers don’t come close to Vegas.

In 3 days in September I ran a little less that $60,000 total coin in playing NSUD. I received for December and January the usual max offer of $175 free play at 2 different times a month, 3 day segments for free rooms, some free food and offers for tournaments I have no interest in. (Although since the free play offer is only for 2 months rather than 3 it’s not really the max offer.)

Since I’m out of town, I will only be able to take advantage of one $175 free play per month which makes the Nugget less attractive given its location.

Of course $1 JOB 9/6 has a theo loss o f $18.24 per hour ($4,000 coin in) while $1 NSUD has a theo loss of $10.86 per
hour.

Theo aside, I hit 2 Royals.

For JANugget:

I think $30k was too low in the Quarterly “cycle” to accumulate the max offer. (or perhaps you THOUGHT you put through that amount, but it was slightly lower?)

As for the “max” offer at JANugget…that $175 offer IS the max offer a slot/vp player can recieve (Table players can recieve $400 in “promo” chips; but those are only really worth $200)

However, Carlton Greer is taking over on 12/15/13, so who knows what is going to happen

(I do know they’re going to a “tiered” card, as well as changing how comps are earned)

Re JANugget, an observation:

Let me preface this by saying that I’m not the most seasoned player there, so I’ll defer to anyone else’s “intelligence” …

I’ve seen $30K ci cited as the qualification for the top $175 FP mailer. However, I would guess that this amount would vary by machine – where machines rated with thinner holds would require higher play, and v.v.

If I had to set a benchmark, my guess would be that earning $100 in John’s $'s (comps) on play would meet the threshold. It would not surprise me if Haaljo’s NSUD play fell short of that mark.

Generally speaking, there’s little about JANugget that’s compelling by itself. However, if I’m motivated to a Reno trip by other factors and can break free for a day at JANugget, I think it’s generally a rewarding play.

I really like the hospitality and employees there (although I find that to be true of most any Reno casino I’ve played to date … the folks in Reno just simply are friendly

I’m confused. (I’m also no expert on the Nugget.)

I guess you are saying that the John’s comps (and not just free play) are earned at different rates depending on the type (EV) of the machine played? I haven’t explored that.

The general topic of what you get for your play of a given machine is kind of a “Casino 101” topic.

Almost all casinos rate each video poker machine independently, with the rating based upon what the casino holds from players over time. There’s a general inverse correlation between machine hold and the paytable strength … but because of variations in player skill, game selection, and other factors, there can be a considerable variability in machine rating from one machine to another.

The bottom line is that casino typically use their estimate of machine hold to determine the benefits returned to the players of that machine. Because this applies across the board, you can make some inferences about relative machine rating based upon what you see in the form of things such as comps, cashback, etc.

So, when it comes to JANugget, what I’m saying is that I believe the $30k coin-in threshold that’s commonly cited as top offer qualification is likely subject to some variability based upon machine played. Further, that if you’re playing a relatively high return game such as NSUD, it’s likely that you’ll see lower comp accrual and a lower inferred rating than when you’re playing a lower return game. Consequently, it may take greater coin-in to get top benefits.

Finally, I’ve suggested that based upon limited anecdotal experience, I believe earning around $100 in John’s $'s is likely sufficient to qualify for the top mailer.

I’m confused. (I’m also no expert on the Nugget.)

I guess you are saying that the John’s comps (and not just free play) are earned at different rates depending on the type (EV) of the machine played? I haven’t explored that.
