Reading the fine print:

HARRAH'S

7 star players get an annual celebration dinner worth $500. I was going to
use it for a party of 30. Was told that it's limited to 4 people. Several
times in the past I've had more than 4 people & the restaurants always took
care of it but I never read the rules.

SILVERTON

has a current promotion that gives you food credit in the following
amounts:

250 pts = $10
500 pts = $20
1000 pts = $40

$1 play = 1 pt

The screen on the machine tells you about the promotion but does not tell
you about the restrictions. When I tried to use $40 for dine in with a
friend & a sandwich take-out I learned the rules:

--- only 2 entrees can be ordered
--- no take-out
--- the rules are on the back of the coupon

We protested that you don't know the rules until after you get the
coupon.**

CASINO ROYALE

has brought back the video poker coupons for those who play enough to
establish themselves for the quarterly mailer.

I'm guessing that's 100,000 pts which is $10 in comps or free play.

**PEPPERMILL in Reno often did this with their coupons by offering dining
freebies which weren't really free due to restrictions printed on coupon.

We have used our Harrah’s celebration dinner for big groups (as many as 18) in many different casinos over the years, most recently last month. (We would choose a buffet for a large number of people rather than a gourmet restaurant for a few.) I don’t know where the “rules” are written down. In the 7* booklet I last received it did say to make arrangements with a host and “some restrictions apply.” I wonder whether it depends on the host, the casino, or what?? I never have heard of that 4 limit – very troubling!!!!!

Silverton’s food promo has another negative. If you earn at the $40 level, you can’t get two $20’s rather than one $40. Very inconvenient for a single person. A friend said they were just shooting themselves in the foot – next time she would just play 500 points instead of 1000.

Great idea, casinos – run a promotion that causes your customers to play less!!!!!

I used mine on a party of 7 with 7 free deserts and an overage on the meals of $23 which they also covered.

Silverton is the premier purveyor of promotions that encourage
you to play less!

I've never had this problem. Every time I have gotten the annual dinner I just get a printed voucher for $500 made out to one of the "partner resturants" (this is in NOLA), and I use it to pay the bill. The number of people never seems to matter. I haven't tried to feed 30 people, but I've had plenty of 7* annual dinners with 5 or 6.

We were in New Orleans in October and they would only give the $500 "celebration" dinner for in casino restaurants on a 1 to 1 - other parter restaurants were 2 for 1 - a $250 vaucher was givien for partner restaurants.

I haven't collected my celebration dinner for this year yet, so thanks for the warning. But it's really not much of a shock - Harrah's NOLA seems to re-write the rules for which resturants you can or can't use the celebration dinner every single year.

This is news to me ... we did my celebration dinner a couple of years ago at NOLA and were quite pleased when they issued a comp for the full $500 (this was about a year after the partner comp ratio went to 2:1).

More recently, friends of ours used their celebration dinner in NOLA for a partner restaurant in September and it was my grasp that they received the full $500 credit.

Current policy for the annual dinner at NOLA is *definitely* $500 for the in-casino restaurants, or $250 for the partner restaurants. Trust me on this.

Of course, that doesn't mean that they won't change the policy next month...
