re winning tax fight

Congrats to Brad and Jean for getting their taxes back from Indiana.

This is a reminder to anyone who played in Louisiana and had tax withheld.
You can get it back if you are a non-resident, or at least most. We
played a LOT in Nola last year and just got back over $8000 for taxes withheld.
Download the non-resident tax form from the Louisiana website.

Unfortunately you cannot get anything back from nearby Missouri, which
takes 3% out from any W2 Jackpots, even if you are a non-resident or overall
loser.

In La we end up paying abt 1.5% on jackpots after filing as a non-resident.

I think someone who files as a professional might take the "gambling tax" off their Schedule C as an "expense." I'll let you know after I file my 2011 return!

I'm not sure on your exact situation but I had about 10k in jackpots in Louisiana and got about 90% of my LA taxes back. The check came in the mail today, which is surprising as many states take 3-6 months for any payment. This is just an FYI for people who are unsure of whether to file non-resident or not.
