I was there for a couple of days this week and they were putting in some
new machines (also in Palazzo) so this may have been at least part of reason
for shutdown of many machines you saw.

re venetian shutdown
I think I found out why they were shutting down machines. We just returned from the Venetian and they are having the deep stack poker tournaments going on - therefore they removed many of the machines from all the areas around the poker room and around near the high limit room....Some of them were moved to other areas, others are dark and others are somewhere else -
