I am sorry to hear about misscraps problems with the IRS
but grateful she posts to the group and shares .Likewise with Marissa
it is time consuming and it is free .About fees:if no one complains about
yours;you are not charging enough.
I have been an E. A. for over twenty years now and would like to
point out a couple of things.W2-G's ,1099's etc. are used by the
IRS as income checks in a wide variety of income producing activities
and they are accurate enough for government work.Do not expect
an entry level employee( getting 20k) to override them.
Expect to be at the audit level where the employee's
the IRS would be charging user fees for their other services.
250 dollars for a letter ruling on your specific facts covering
you only.etc before you are speaking to someone who
will listen to reasonable exceptions.
Most of the questions in this thread are audit procedure questions
and accounting period questions(Sessions)Being a E. A. not a C.P.A.
I make no claim to G.A.P. and only mention this because these
issues are not gambling specific and approaching this like
you are a knowable gambler and they ain't is not the best way to
go.
Harry you will be glad to know there is no copyright on government
materials too many tax authors copy large sections of Tax publications
put their cover on it and sell it.Hapy that is not the case with Scott
and Chien but your welcome to just sign your name someplace and
that should make it original enough for resale.
You will not find specific THIS Means YOU instructions for every
business activity and hobby in the U.S. but that cuts both ways.
As long as you reasonable think about your hobby or business
you can take a reasonable stand about it (Yes cashback is a rebate)
and it is not counter and subject to special penalties because
they don't have a stand.
Logic only takes you so far in understanding tax's when I
was in quality control/Tax research I was ready to correct
a retired marine captains work because he had taken
an itemized deduction for tax's paid to a terrorist nation
and I knew darn well a tax credit for said tax's had
been specifically prohibited by congress for a while.
Guess who was right?I believe it is still the case.
Most of the glaring hypocrisies and contradictions
that make the Tax system difficult to enforce
are not caused by the low level"s you can yell at
over the phone ,you've got to exercise your right to
vote to get that.
