re Moving to Vegas - local versus non-local offers

If you are moving to Vegas and have a friend who can forward mail to you (a
reliable friend!) you may want to arrange that and have 2 addresses. Some
properties give better mailings for locals, some for out-of-towners. This
advice is also for people who do have 2 addresses/homes.

Generally here are a few places:

Palms - local address, unless you want free rooms
Coasts - local address, unless you want free rooms
Harrah's properties in Vegas - out of town - normally much better mailers,
but you
       won't get coupons that say things like play 100 points, get $100;
these vary depending on play and are only sent to Vegas locals. Also if you are
offered a chartered airline flight to a Harrah's property, it will be from
your out-of-town address. Some air offers just are for rebates toward air,
this you can use to fly from Vegas even if you have an out-of-town address.

Venetian - local better
Las Vegas Hilton - out-of-town better - except they won't phone you for
"free show tickets for locals" offers
MGM/Mirage - out of town
Wynn - local better unless you want free rooms; right now their local Free
Credit in next month offers are great for locals (though if you play FP games
only you may not get them)
Stations - local
Terribles - either

If you do have both local and out-of-town addresses but show a Vegas ID
only, just say you own 2 houses/condos, but that your primary address is XXX
(local or out of town). If you get a W2G give them whichever address you want,
but be aware they may change your Slot Club address to that W2G address, so
change it back to whichever one you want (or ask them not to change slot
address).

Generally if you have 2 addresses, try to keep straight on which one you are
using and make sure you have a reliable/trusted person to forward mail.

Depending on where you play, you may just want to go with one address; this
is easier. For most "local type" casinos like Coasts and Stations, local
address is the best, so if you want to use 1 address, this is best.

If you want to use 2 addresses and 1 phone number, just tell anyone who asks
- this is my CELL number - avoiding awkward questions about your area code.

If you don't have a reliable friend or relative to forward mail, it is also
possible to contact a mail forwarding service of some sort. I don't know how
that works. If you are using 2 addresses, obviously it helps if your
friend/relative can also contact you via email or phone to tell you about any
time-dated offers you may receive and for them to mail you offers fairly
frequently so you can book them. You'll want to give that person some $ or envelopes
for postage.

If you do have 2 homes and move back and forth, you can always arrange to
have mail forwarded by post office or try to have someone at each end forward
mail whenever you move back and forth, which might be easier than constantly
changing addresses at the casinos (since there is always a delay for changes of
address).

Thank you so much for the information, this is just what I wanted to
find out before I move!

I have a little experience in this area. I've used P.O. boxes and
I've used private mail services.

I had a P.O box at the Riverside in Laughlin for several years. Then
that Post Office went private. My first address was P.O. Box XXXX,
Laughlin, Nevada. We they went private, though I had the exact same
box, my address changed to PMB XXXX, 1951 Casino Drive, Laughlin,
Nevada. My box rental went from $14 a year to $35 a year.

At first I was a little miffed, but wound up preferring the private
mail service. The PMB stands for "Private Mail Box." Due to fraud
and so forth, people using PMB's and representing them as apartments
or places of business, the USPS started requiring that PMB had to be
used in the mailing address.

I was running a circuit in those days between Laughlin, Las Vegas,
Reno, and Tahoe. All my mail went to Laughlin. About once a month I
had my private mail service take all my casino mail, put it in a big
envelope and either mail it or FED EX/UPS it to me.

I mainly used first class mail for forwarding. But sometimes I used
FED EX or UPS. If I used "first class" they usually charged me
somewhere between $8 and $10 to send off that batch of mail. If I
used FED EX/UPS the charge was about double.

All this usually had to do with where I was staying and for how
long. If I were in a casino/hotel for just a few days I had them FED
EX/UPS (2 day delivery) to insure I got the package before I had to
check out. If I was gonna be there longer I would just use first
class.

When you are bouncing around like I was the USPS is just not
reliable. You can request a forwarding and it can take forever for
you to get it. The private mailing services are private businesses
and they give prompt service.

I used another private mailing service in Ely and it worked just fine
too. But she was a little on the high side. So shop around. You
can find them in the yellow pages under "mail boxes" or "mailing
services."

Some people may think this is an expensive way to go, but when you
are in Las Vegas and all your mail is laying in a box in Reno, and
you know you have room comp, bounceback/freeplay, freeroll tournament
invites, multiple point days, etc., laying in that box, having them
forward it is a hell of a lot cheaper than going to Reno and and
getting it yourself.
