Re-energizing the Colorado VP Forum

Bob,

I don't know how much coin in you play on a weekend but you might consider
going in to VIP and talking to a host.

We do have a history w/ the Isle b/c of our play in Louisiana, but we also
play heavily when we are there, in the neighborhood of $30K+ coin in per day on
my card and much less on hubbys. Oddly, he is the one getting the mailers
for $15 BBC and assorted coupons. Also, they used to have a deal where if
you stayed and played 3000 points on your card, one night's room would be
comped. This perk may have changed recently along with the demise of Isle
Miles.

How is everyone enjoying the smoke free casinos? Do you hear that business
has remained steady or declined? Will be interested to experience firsthand
in May.

To a non-smoker like me, the non-smoking casinos are wonderful. I
don't smell like an ashtray after 5 minutes of play (or at all), and I
don't come away feeling like I have a respiratory infection. The
smokers don't seem too unhappy about it either; at least I haven't
heard any grumbling. The casinos all have rules and mechanisms for
smokers to reserve their machines while they go out for a smoke break.

For January, the first month of non-smoking, the casinos reported a 3%
drop in revenue. However, they said that January was also an
exceptionally snowy month, so they can't say whether the drop was due
to the non-smoking law or the weather. My partner and I are trying to
go up and play more often to show our support and appreciation for the
change.

I have a question about etiquette for the group. What do you think of
players who occupy two machines at once when there are only 6 or so
machines of that type available? There is a very popular TDB game at
Fitzgeralds and all 6 machines are constantly occupied. I find it very
annoying to walk in and find people who have money in an idle machine
and are playing another, leaving a bunch of people who would like to
play out of luck. We asked a floor attendant about this and
Fitzgerald's policy is that it limits players to two machines, so
there was nothing they could do. The Station limits players to one
machine when things are busy, but I have never seen all the machines I
like to play occupied. What do you think? Should I just get over it?

We, too, have really enjoyed the cleaner air and are trying to get
up more often. We've been up about 6-7 times this year and the only
days when the casinos didn't seem as busy as last year were during
snow storms on a couple of Monday nights. I'm sure they've lost some
smokers but I think they'll make it back in more gambling time from
nonsmokers. Smoking patios seem to be working well, though I'm sure
they're not the most comfortable place to hang out in a cold wind,
even with heavy duty heaters.

I don't like it at all. If there aren't any vacant machines available
I'll ask the player to give one up. If they won't, I ask a supervisor
to make the player give me one of the machines. If that's not
successful, I've been known to talk loudly to myself or everyone
in general about the two machiner's lack of manners - particularly
if I know that they are an advantage player.
