Radio Active ?

Howdy

I am in the habit of using my noise reducing Bose headphones and tiny
Shuffle ipod, packed with songs I enjoy, when I am plugging away hoping to bag a
Royal. I place the Ipod in the machine tray so it is within reaching distance in
case I want to mess with it.

Well today for the first time I was asked to remove it from the tray because
"It interferes with the operating of the machine." as the security guard put
it. He actually thought it was a small radio.

Can someone enlighten me on this? Is this another myth like the loch Ness
Monster or is there some truth to be reckoned with?

Just a myth. Maybe we can get the "Myth Busters" to do a show on this.

Anyway, I had a similar situation in Laughlin at the Golden Nugget. I
placed my ham radio on the chair as I was getting some money from my
wallet. I was warned that it could affect the machine. It wasn't even on.

I did see a program on TV that showed them testing the machines by
sparking it with a Tesla coil. This puts out 1000's of volts but low
amps. So a radio or mp3 player would have no affect. The machines are
well shielded from electrical interference.

What they may be concerned with though are the cheat gizmos that shine a
light on the photo sensors that count the coins. These are used in the
tray area where the coins drop out. Seen this on another TV program.
This could affect the coin counting and give you more coins as they are
dropping. Which is another reason that they are going to
ticket-in/ticket-out and getting rid of the coin droppers.

So it's probably best not to put electronic devices (cell phones, etc.)
in the tray.
