Quick show reviews

While my friend Siona has been in town we saw a bunch of shows. Here is a
quick breakdown:

Phantom of Opera - loved it. Excellent production. Cutting the show to 90
minutes probably benefits it. Some pyrotechnics enhance production. Sets
were excellent. Singers excellent. But caveat - don't sit too close to the
front in this one. We were in front row, which meant we had too close a view
of actors faces and could notice their microphones, which are on their
foreheads - kind of distracting. Also for best view of chandelier and some effects,
you don't want to be too close to the front. Try about 10-20 rows back,
perhaps. (Venetian)

La Reve (Wynn)- My second viewing. This show is excellent. Show really
worked for me. I believe there have been some changes since I first saw show,
and the show seemed less like other Cirque shows, though does have echos of
many. Some say it is too much like "O" - but if it is too much like an
excellent show, who cares. In fact on 2nd viewing, I thought it may even be better
than "O." Quibble - clowns, though funny, are on for too long. Highly
recommended. One caveat -- if you are a large person, beware, the seats are
unusually tight. My friend and I are overweight and we could barely sit in the
seats. Seats could be downright uncomfortable. There are some handicapped
seats available that might be a smidgen larger (according to box office), but
they are in the back row. Wynn should think about adding some wider seats for
wider behinds instead of fooling with the show itself!

Jubilee (Ballys) - Old fashioned show, but in a good way. This is your
chance to see a classic Vegas-style review. It is in the same vein as Follies
Bergere, Ziegfield Follies, and many more. Large cast (87 people I believe),
excellent singing and dancing, interesting stage, really beautiful costumes,
beautiful topless showgirls in good taste, great Gershwin music. A must-see
for Vegas goers.

John Hancock Champions on Ice - Orleans 1 night show - Great! Look for a
similar show coming to Orleans in late October. These ice skaters are
excellent!
