Questions about Tunica

I will be taking my 7* trip to Tunica. I have never been there before. Any suggestions on which Harrah's property to stay in, other casinos to gamble in, where the good vp is at Harrah's properties, which restaurants to eat in, and what there is to do down there.

Thanking each of you in advance for your help.

FWIW, it's "Beale Street", not "Basin Street". Great blues town if that's your cup-o-tea.

Thanks for the information. They did recommend that I stay at the Horseshoe. Good choice?

I would stay at Horseshoe or Roadhouse Casino (both Harrah's properties). You can easily walk between these two casinos plus Gold Strike, since all three share one common parking lot. Harrah's (formerly Grand-Tunica) is off by itself, and as someone else mentioned two out of its three hotels are a long hike from the actual casino. If you have a rental car then it's not such a big deal.

Sheraton, (whoops, Roadhouse) has the best VP of the 3 Harrah's properties, and Horseshoe has by far the worst. All three have pretty good steak house type resturants. I actually prefer the Horseshoe buffet to the Paula Dean's at Harrah's - too much down home fried cooking for me. But my wife loves it, so YMMV.

As for activities: hope you play golf.

*depends on your taste. horseshoe is 'grittier' than harrah's. the casino
also is more cramped and smoky, imho. there is the benefit of the two
casinos there (i wouldn't count gold strike. it's not a caesar's casino, and
the vp is completely unplayable). as for the 'best vp' mentioned by the
other commenter, harrah's does have full pay $ vp (or it did when i was
there last).*

···

*
*
* i should mention that i have found the employees at tunica (including my
host) to be extremely friendly and helpful.*
*
*
*i actually go to tunica because it is in the middle of nowhere, because it
is a slower pace, because the service is so good--good vp and a nice pool
are all i need. to each his own.*
*
*
*as for the other person's comment about paula dean's buffet--it's true. you
can feel you arteries start to clog the minute you walk through the door.
but it's a huge, tasty buffet, if it's your thing.*
*
*
*have fun and win big!

There is a great Mississippi river museum just before the entrance to the Fitz and also a neat nature trail along the river behind the Fitz. Any rumors about cottonmouth moccasins hanging from the tree branches are just designed to scare Yankees. If you are going to be outdoors, be sure and take mosquito repellant, though. The best VP is next door to the Horseshoe, loose deuces I believe. It is also a Caesar's property, changed names a couple of years ago.
