Please allow me to clarify one of my questions:
Q) Do I have to know ALL the payout amounts?
A) Most definitely - and check EVERY machine you play.
More specifically, is it good enough to know the pay table for Straight/Flush (as in 9/6)..or do I need to memorize (or carry a print out) out the COMPLETE pay table (what is paid for every pay out, be it for 9/6 or 8/5 or 10/7 ect.)
Also, regarding "Unless you are very well-heeled, I'd suggest you check the database for a casino which offers 5-cent games in either
Jacks or Better, or Bonus Poker."
I assume 'well-heeled' means 'have a big bankroll'..no, I am not. I do plan on playing 5 & 25 cent machines,with max bets. I will probably have $400 or so to spend. My goal is to 'put what I have learned to use', play as long as possible on what I have & maybe come home a winner! My trip to LV is actually to see 2 sisters & a sister-in-law who I have not seen in about 12 years. They are coming from Ohio, so I am going there to meet them on their vacation. I will only be able to get "some" casino play time in..but want to make the best of it when I do. I know that the better educated I am in advance, the better my chances are. I have not seen a VP machine in over 2 years, and did not pay much attention to them when I did. Being a very visual person, it is harder for me to understand facts & figures, without actually seeing a machine in front of me! SInce I won't have computer access in LV, the more I can ask now & take with me in the form of print outs will help. That is why I am
trying to ask about anything that is confusing or not clear to me. I leave in about 36 hours, so I promise the questions won't last forever!

say "Jacks or Better" on it?
Sometimes. The older machines had glass faceplates. Some
say "Jacks or Better". Some say "Draw poker". These have
the paytable printed on the glass - you can read it while
walking by. Some say "multigame" - these have a "menu"
activated by the rightmost of the 5 "Hold" buttons. You
must go into menu mode to see if each machine offers JOB.
The newer machines (usually offering touchscreen features)
often revert automatically to menu mode. As you're walking
by you can see at a glance all of the games offered. To
check the paytable you must choose your game, then check
the paytable.
2) Are "all" JOB machines the same, with the exception
of the pay table? For example: Is it possible to find a
JOB machine that has wild cards or offeres bonuses?
Highly unlikely. By definition, those are different games.
About all you might find would be a progressive royal
flush.

And I am truly a beginner as I
am even having to learn the card rankings & sequences
etc!! SO, any suggestions you can give to a beginner
would be appreciated more than words can say!!
