Questions about Jacks or Better video poker

I am a new VP player "wannabe" :slight_smile: I have a copy of 'Frugal Video
Poker' software & have been reading VP books. I feel I a have 'very
basic understanding' of how to play Jacks or Better VP. But there
are some questions that I just can't find answers to!! Here is a
couple of them that come to mind at the moment. I have been
searching for a place to be able to ask questions to other VP
players for so long, I can hardly remember what my questions were!!

1) How do I "find" a Jacks or Better VP machine when visiting a
casino? What am I looking for? Will it say "Jacks or Better" on it?
What name will be on it or
could it have different names? (for example: In slots there
is "Wheel
of Fortune" & "Price is Right" & "Double Diamond" etc... Is this the
same for VP & if so, how will I know a Jacks or Better machine?

2) Are "all" JOB machines the same, with the exception of the pay
table? For example: Is it possible to find a JOB machine that has
wild
cards or offeres bonuses? (Not that it is what I want, I am just
trying to know what to look for)

3) I thought I had finding the '9/6' paytable figured out, then read
somewhere about watching out for many variations of this paytable.
It
said something about you may find a 9/6 machine, but then the casino
could/might change something else in the paytable, that would change
the percentages. If this is true, then what do I need to look at to
find a true 9/6 machine? Do I have to know ALL the payout amounts?

I live in Southern California & will be traveling to Las Vegas on
4/1/05. I have choosen to start by playing JOB machines since it is
the most recommended for beginners. And I am truly a beginner as I
am even having to learn the card rankings & sequences etc!! SO, any
suggestions you can give to a beginner would be
appreciated more than words can say!!

Go to the home page, then go to Video Poker pay tables--you will see
various Jack or Better paytables. THe most common 9/6 Jacks or
Better game is the 99.54% pay table. Most video poker games will
tell you the name of the game on it. Be carefull other games(Double
Double Bonus Poker) also have the 9 to 1 for the full house and 6 to
1 for the flush paytable.
Check the casino's in the data base(for L.V) that have the 9/6
paytable( most on the strip have the inferior 8/5 paytable). Many
local casinos will have the 9/6 paytable,again the data base will
tell you.

This is one of the areas I was concerned about. If other games may have 9/6 listed as payout for full house/flush, how do I know if I have found JoB? Would the Double Double Bonus Poker you mentioned still be a "JoB" game? Would I still use a JoB strategy on it?

So, how do I know which one is which? Is Double Double Bonus Poker a JoB game? If not, then I assume I look for a game called JoB or Draw Poker with a 9/6 payout & that a different game with a 9/6 pay out would have a DIFFERENT name?

First off: 95% of the machines will call the game Jacks or Better.
Old coin-droppers might still call it Draw Poker in smaller joints.
So, don't worry about that. Dbl Dbl Bonus won't be called anything
else: it won't sneak into a game under the name JoB.

Printout the full table of Jacks or Better Games: I think "5-card's
Pay Tables" are best for you: they retain the numbers you will see
on the machines (for a 5 credit bet), rather than divide by 5 like
most others.

In other words, us veterans call it 9/6 JoB. But we always bet 5
creds so the paytable reads 45/30 for Fullhouse/Flush. Yes, the rest
of the hands values are good to check, but they rarely change. And
you should be able to memorize those values. Check that the Royal
pays 4000 creds for a 5 cred bet.

You'll see how easy they are to find once you're in the right casino.
Because you are scouting for these machines before your trip at the
best repository of VP inventory in the known world. Amen!
