questions about casino hosts

I am relatively new to casino gambling, so I hope you can help clarify a few things about casino hosts for me:

1) What makes a casino host good or bad?;
2) Will you receive different offers if you do or do not have one?
3) How do you find a good one and what level/type of contact should you have with them?

Any other info would be helpful. I am a little concerned (should I be?) because I called into the Eldorado to ask a question and was transferred to the Director of Casino Development and he noted that no host was on my account and put his name. I play $25k to $30k coin-in/visit, but this seems way beyond my league. Should I appraoch another host and ask them to manage my account?

Thanks!
Pat

If you are a video poker player, you cannot expect a host go above and beyond for you other than what the computer says they can do which is generally reflected in your offers.

What makes a host good or bad is strictly your judgment. Some people put a high value on getting a reservation in a restaurant or show tickets; neither of these have much interest to me. I value a host higher who is responsive with emails and phone calls.

Your offers (generally) will be the same whether you have a host or not.

Amount of contact will depend upon high "needy" you are and if you want things above and beyond offers. Generally I prefer for a host to contact me rather than me always contacting them and asking for things.

And remember, a host has one purpose in life -- that is to separate you from your money.

With all this said, I would not change hosts at the Eldorado. I have found the hosts at the Eldorado to be honest and direct which I find helpful. If the Director of Casino Development did not want to be your host, he would have indicated that to you.

For me, I have always found no use for a host, considering my play ($100k over the course of a year; $10k a month breakdown)
I've only actually USED a host ONCE and that was because another casino had cancelled my RSVP, and I needed a place to stay (and they came through for me)
Like he said, for vP players, your mailers are usually your best offers.

I have to disagree to some extent. My mailed offers from Atlantis have ALWAYS been the same, some freeplay and 3 free nights in a Tower room. My host has always upgraded me to either a Jacuzzi suite in the tower, or a suite in their Concierge tower....and if I want to stay for 4 or 5 days, it is always extended to me by my host...YMMV..
My wife and I play around 10k a day...
