Question

Talking about the accuracy of the strategy charts not the play programs. Winpoker and Frugal play info is 100% accurate. The charts generated by either Frugal or VPSM are not.

Strategy Master is LESS accurate that Frugal.
Frugal and Winpoker are equal in accuracy.

Three computer programs are excellent!

Frugal Video Poker ($39.95) available at frugalgambler.biz can be used to practice the correct strategy for about 99% of all games you will run across. This program also will generate strategy charts. (You can even tweak the charts to greater accuracy!) The base games shown are mostly full pay games but you can modify and same separately any game to match the pay table you wish to practice. The program will generate a payback percentage and a strategy. When practicing a game the program can either have you practice against the chart or against perfect play.

Bob Dancer's Winpoker 6.0.1 (Do not confuse this with the old Winpoker games sometimes seen on shareware.) and Video Poker Strategy Master (Do not confuse this with the lousy Video Poker Strategy Pro.) ($29.95 each) at zamzone.com. The second program only generates strategy charts which are a little more accurate than the charts on Frugal Video Poker. (You can modify them to eliminate redundant info so a strategy card will be smaller.) The first program does everything else that Frugal Video Poker does except generate strategy charts. If you want to have fun you can play triple, four, five and ten play.

I own all three of these products and can certainly recommend all of them.
Note: All of these products need Windows. Frugal Video Poker is on a CD-Rom. The other two are either on floppy or can be downloaded at the zamzone.com sight. Both sites maintain update services but I do not see a current update for Winpoker.

What about the strategy cards you can buy like the bob dancer 6 card set are those any good?

So is win poker the best all around vp software for play and strategy charts?

Thanks,
Lance

I've been gone almost a week and haven't caught up on all the list mail - but I did want to answer this question about what games a casual VP player who only plays a few times a year should choose. I recommend that these players - IF they really are interested in learning at least a basic "good" strategy - should choose no more than 2 games - and actually concentrating on one is the very best idea. VP strategies are not easy - and it takes a lot of experience to change games and use accurate strategy. Better to choose one game and learn to play it well.

For MOST gamblers, and especially casual ones, a basic strategy without penalty cards is the best choice - because it is easier to learn AND easier to remember. This is why I promote Jim Wolf's software, Frugal VP. It has a very good basic strategy, without penalty cards, and you can both practice that strategy and print it out to take it with you to the casino. I am not running down other software programs; I used all of them successfully in the past. But Frugal VP has combined a lot of features that used to take more than one program. And it offers perfect strategy practice if that is what you wish - but it also gives the simplified strategy that loses very little EV and will let most players be more accurate in the long run.
