Question re: Pickem

When the first two cards are a pair, the value of the "picked card" only
matters if it causes a triplet.
holding 8s 8c with a choice of 3c or Jc is equal because they both have the
same chance of generating two pair, three of a kind, full house or four of
a kind.
A final hand of 8833x pays exactly the same as 88JJx. Same is true of 8883x
versus 888Jx, 88833 versus 888JJ, 88333 versus 88JJJ and finally 88883
versus 8888J.
This is basically the equivalent of being forced to hold a kicker to a pair
in a non wild card normal video poker game.
dds2124 has explained the situation perfectly. I have only played pickem
once in a casino because the other two times I saw it, the machine also had
full pay All American and I had the strategy chart in my pocket.

Remember Pick'em is 9s or better. A 10 is a high card.
