Question ??????? Casinos on US Hwy 10 between Florida & Arizona

We are headed to Tallahassee Florida and will be taking Us Hwy 10 headed to Arizona.??? How far is the nearest casino
after leaving Tallahassee?

What are good casinos along the way and do they allow you to spend the night in their parking lot?

Is it safe to do so???

We just retired and this is our first venture??? Any help would be appreciated!

Thank You

Sharon

The nearest casinos to Tallahassee are in Gulfport and Biloxi, MS. I have never driven from there to Tallahassee, but I would guess they are about 3 hours away. I-10 goes through both cities. All Mississippi casinos are very liberal with meal comps, and you can usually find good VP at the .25 level and up. I have never actually been to the Gulf Coast casinos, only Tunica, but have heard good things. Most of them are brand new as well thanks to Hurricane Katrina. I would call the individual properties about overnighting in the parking lots.

Someone has already mentioned the casinos on the MS coast in Biloxi
and Gulfport. You'll also pass by several casinos in Louisiana - the
most convenient to I-10 being the two casinos in Lake Charles (Isle
of Capri and La Berge Du Lac (sp???). Avoid the numerous "truck
stop" casinos in Louisiana with their hideous video poker games,
unless you just feel compelled to donate some money to the state
treasury.

As for spending the night in a casino parking lot - do you have a
trailer or motorhome, or do you just plan to sleep in the car?

I have no idea what casino policy is for people spending the night in
a motorhome or camper in their parking lot. I suppose you'll just
have to call and ask.

Some of the casinos on the Mississippi coast have indoor parking
garages and not much if anything in the way of open lot parking - so
a motorhome is not very practical for these particular places. The
Grand in Biloxi and Hard Rock Casino fall into this category. The
Beau Rivage also has a garage, but I think they may have an open lot
across the street for oversize vehicles. The IP has a small open
lot, but I wouldn't recommend spending the night there - it's not in
one of the better parts of town. I'd also be a bit wary of staying
at the Boomwown and Palace parking lot. The Isle of Capri may be
reasonably safe. Treasure Bay is OK. The Island View casino in
Gulfport is probably OK. Further west, Hollywood casino in Bay St.
Louis used to actually have an RV park - perhaps they still do.

Figure more like 5 hours.

It's a nice drive as long as it's not pouring cats and dogs like it
usually does to me.

Hi Sharon,

But first; be sure to check the Casino Database Index here on vpFREE

Mississippi

Closest to I-10 is Biloxi and the Imperial Palace. They have a large
gravel lot and allow RV and truck parking. Its right off I-110 South
about 3 miles from I-10. You'll see it coming over the bridge.

They have a nice coffee shop (24/7 restaurant) and a nice steak house
if you'd prefer the upscale dining. Their buffet is always crowded,
and we didn't think it was anything special.

Louisiana

A "maybe" is the L'Auberge Du Lac Casino in Lake Charles.
They "unofficially" allow overnighting but I'd not arrive there
without a Plan B.

We travel that way 2x a year, and prefer to detour around the worst
part of I-10 (rough and under construction) from Lake Charles to
Beaumont. If you'd like to do the same, try Coushatta Casino in
Kinder, LA. They allow overnight RV parking in their large paved
lot. They also have a very nice RV park.

Texas

No casinos. But they do have some nice rest areas!

New Mexico

Most of the casinos are up around Albuquerque on I-40, but there's
one down on I-10 just inside the NM border from El Paso called
Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino. We've never been there but have
heard it's OK.

Arizona

Not sure your destination but there are several casinos in both the
Tucson and Phoenix areas which allow RV overnighting.
