Question about bankroll

Bill good questions.

Actually, we literally have a bankroll amount that is sitting in the bank
for the sole purposes of playing VP in las vegas.
The previous amount was about 8K which after the recent loss is now reduced.
So that's where my percentage loss of bankroll comes from.
For the trip itself, I think we brought 3K, knowing that we already have 6
trips planned and one of those being a 9 day trip over the holidays.

The scary part for me is, if we lost over $1000 in 3 days, how much will we
lose over 9 days. That's the really scary part.

So, I guess in your terms we have a long term bankroll that we pull from for
each trip, which would be our trip stake.

Until we got into this discussion all about bankrolls, I had always
thought it only in the short-term -- what is more appropriately called a
'trip stake'. It had never occurred to me to establish a long-term
'bankroll' or set any sort of a long-term limit (which I imagine amounts
to the same thing). I just 'catch as catch can' ... deciding right
before any trip how much I can afford to lose ... and I might have a lot
of trips in my life, or not so many. I just don't know; undoubtedly it
will depend on how well I'm doing with my health, my time, and my
overall finances (which will, of course, be affected to _some_ degree by
  my previous casino trips).

So when you say that you have lost over 12% of your bankroll, that is a
foreign concept to me. Did you decide on a figure and put it down on
paper (or burn it into your memory) with the intention of never
exceeding that amount? I mean, things change, and if you happen to have
disposable income for recreation, for instance, wouldn't you play some
VP even after you exhausted your 'bankroll'? I guess I still don't
really _GET_IT_ yet. The bottom line is that my long-term bankroll is
yet to be determined, and I'm enjoying myself playing despite that; this
then causes me to wonder what the purpose of it all is, except for
thinking of it all in the abstract, i.e., IF my lifetime bankroll is
THIS, then I have THIS much of a chance of winning THIS. ... and that
  sort of thing.

  Cheers.
