Qualifying for room offers at Red Rock

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with this (sorry it's so
long):

- I'm generally a quarter VP player, but I play a lot of hours when I
visit Vegas. I generally put between 10,000 and 12,000 a day through
the machines, and sometimes if I'm doing well I'll up the ante to 50
cents and one dollar.
- I currently get free room offers from Sunset Station and Main
Street Station/California, and with lesser frequency from Green
Valley Ranch. I've never stayed at Green Valley, but I've played
there several times, up to the 50-cent level.
- I like that main street has the score with four scratch cards, plus
the cash-back. Also, they're pretty good with the food comps -- I'm
always fully comped. Sunset doesn't usually offer any food comps, but
the Boarding Pass points earned during my stay usually cover my needs.

The problem with main street is that the inventory is pretty limited.
I like to move around a bit for a little variety of location and type
of machine (though I almost always play 10-6 and 9-6 DDB).

So, for planning my next trip, I was thinking of using a free weekend
stay at Main Street to actually play mostly at Red Rock. I really
liked the look of the place when I visited last week. I would end up
burning my bridges at Main Street, but I might end up with a new,
nicer place to be comped.

Is it even likely that 10K per day at Red Rock will warrant any kind
of room comps? Given that the cheapest room rate they're advertising
is $129 a night Sun-Thurs., I'm thinking that my play won't make the
cut. It seems to be barely enough play to warrant a blip at Green
Valley (I get mailed offers for GVR, but it's likely that if I just
cold-called a host and asked for a free weekend they'd laugh in my
face, which is not the case for Sunset or Main Street).

I called and talked to a host at Red Rock -- Ester -- and she said
that based on my Boarding Pass history, she could not even offer me a
casino rate at Red Rock: Until I come and give them some play there.

So, it seems that for my upcoming trip on July 1 I have several
choices:
- Stay at main street, but play heavy at Red Rocks in hopes of future
offers.
- Stay at main street, but split my play at 6K/day each at Red Rock
and main street.
- Stay and play at either GVR or Sunset and just be satisfied with
that.

Anybody willing to share some thoughts on this?

Thanks,

- BP

The following is in our data base which I posted in August of '04. I
believe it to still be the case:

GVR is a nice property. That said, as long as you would stay there
anyway and pay to eat there, fine. From the experiences that friends
of mine have had, it will take AT LEAST $30,000 coin-in a day on
fullpay machines to get a room comp. The hotel is sold out most days
during the weekends and they don't feel the need to give away rooms.
There are people I know that play ten hours a day on dollars and
have a hard time getting more than their room comped which has
caused them to stay at other properties. They also used their slot
points to pay for meals as discretionary comps are tough unless
you're a whale.

You should give Sams Town a try. The rooms are nicer than MSS, way bigger variety of VP, same level of comps, no scratch cards but 6 times points on Holidays.
It is my policy to stay at places that want my business.
If you are looking for more upscale newer places, my sources tell me that the new Southcoast would appreciate your level of play.

Regards
A.P.

I would try the Southcoast. Sounds like you & me are the same type of
player except I play DB. I wrote to a host there & asked if my play
would take care of the room charges. He responded back & offered me
my 2 nights comped upfront. The only thing was he checked my play at
Sam's Town. MSS & Sam's Town are both owned by Boyds so it might work
for you based on your play at MSS.--- In

When GVR came online I think I recall $20,000 a day as the play needed for a room comp. With all the locals jamming Red Rock and the high hotel rates being charged I think you would be wasting your time chasing a room comp - unless you are willing to upgrade to dollar play. If the host looked at oyur Boarding Pass, turned up her nose and kinda sniffed I think you are out of luck. Not even casino rate?!

Just stay at MSS, give them a half days play and go to RR and play - you probably won't screw up your average much at MSS as long as you show them a little love each day.

  Good luck!

Thanks. Yeah, it sounds like Red Rock is going to be a reach for me.

I'm now wavering between a little play a Main Street along with some
play at Red Rock, or possibly transferring my upcoming stay to
Southcoast if I can get the comp in advance based on MSS play. I like
that Southcoast has more variety, is newer, has a pool, etc.

Thanks, everybody, for the feedback.
