Help me out.....what's the strategy behind pulling the slot card?

Pulling Card?
If you are referring to the palms thread, by pulling your card after you
acquire your free play but before you actually play a hand you do not get
charged with a "trip." Trip average is the criteria the palms uses to
determine the amount of free play they send you each month. They started
cracking down on this practice last year.

good hand, some players will pull out there card before hitting
draw. The thinking behind this is, the casino won't know that you
just won a jackpot. This won't help you if you get something on the
deal that locks up your machine.
