Proposed Smokig Ban in Atlantic City

I guess we have our own opinions. I see what I see in casinos on the east and west coasts. Maybe someday if any of the lawmakers have the guts to ban smoking in Nevada casinos, for instance, and allow them only to smoke in those humiliating 'corrals' like some airports have, we'll see just how many smokers there really are that gamble.

Hi Glen,

Would you be kind enough to let us know where you are getting your
statistics. i.e. "gamblers tend to be smokers" or that "there is a
higher percentage of smokers who gamble than non-smokers that
gamble".

If these statements are not based on statistics, are they based on
your perception of what you observe in casino settings? If so, I
think that my perception is at odds with your obsevation.

While I would concur that smokers constitute a higher percentage of
the gambling public than they do of the general public, that's a far
cry from "gamblers tend to be smokers". Perhaps, in bygone days,
that statement would have had some validity. I no longer believe
the statement to be true. Even in LV, the smoking capital of the
USA, there seem to be far fewer smokers than there were a few years
ago. There certainly are NOT far fewer gamblers.

In my own wide and varied circle of friends/family, almost all of
whom frequent casinos to one degree or another, there is not a single
smoker. Perhaps this is due to an age factor, or possibly an
education factor, but nevertheless, these folks DO gamble (some
gamble lots) and DON'T smoke.
