The Colorado Belle down in Laughlin recently rolled out a new version of a
longstanding promotion that they do several times a year. It got me thinking
why I liked this one over the years. What do they do right? What have they
done to improve it over time?
Colorado Belle (CB) has a unique set-up with a huge staircase on one end of
the casino. This staircase goes about half way up the three stories to the
restaurant level. Some genius came up with the idea of a promo centered around
rolling giant cardboard, two foot sided dice down the stairs.
Traditionally, you could get tickets by breathing, sleeping, eating, buying
and even gambling. I am not a fan of this format. Give me one or two ways
(machines and tables) to earn entries. None of these freebies...the new rules
reflect this.
Also CB used to give a ticket for VP quads. What a pain-in-the-ass! Now
they just give you tickets for point redemption (100 points/ticket-$1k coin-in on
VP). No waiting and more importantly no nonsense on the casino floor. The
Pit has been cut down to tickets for Blackjacks only.
Let's get to the actual drawings-
A clear drum let you get an idea of the number of entries.
They used a PA system dedicated to the promo area.
On-time drawings.
You had to be present immediately! Call a name once, twice and three
times...15 seconds was it.
No ID/Slot Card right now, no win.
Personalities who talked up the promo, no suits looking out of place.
Cash on the barrelhead. So what if the consolation prize was $100 in rolled
silver.
A complete set of rules posted in large print next to the drawing drum.
The new version uses computer generated paper drawing tickets.

So what makes for a good drawing style promotion in your joint?
