progressive hit at Harvey's

Thursday, Harvey's $ 8/5Bonus progressive over by their poker room hit for a
bit over $9,000 after a full day of play with a crowd of people waiting for a
chance to play them.

Me? I spent almost 12 hours locked in mortal combat with one of the six
machines until near midnight when someone who'd played about 20 minutes finally
put us out of our misery.

I hit that progressive for $8,982 last year on a one-card draw after
many, many hours of trying. Even though it was my biggest jackpot to
date, I was much more relieved than elated.

At 9000 for the RF, that is about a 102% opportunity. The bad news is
RF accounts for about 5.50% of the 102% return with computer perfect
play. If you played 12 hours without hitting the royal, then you lost
a sizeable amount in terms of expectations.

That's the main reason I don't chase RF progressives -- too risky (i.e.
playing $1 vp on a game that returns about 97% if I don't hit the
royal).

Good thing they hit! We're at Harvey's now and just came off an AWFUL
losing streak on a 50 cent 9/6 JOB prog at the Peppermill. Would have
been tempted to play a little with RF at that level.
