I was watching a Harrahs tech working on a VP machine next to me last
weekend and saw the Bonus setting set to DISABLED then the rest of
the settings on the same screen all set to SECONDARY.
Does anybody know what these settings are supposed to be NORMALLY set?
Primary vs Secondary settings on VP machines
What type of machine was that ? make/model/pay schedule? They all vary.
But it wasn't a switch for secondary programming, that would put them out of
business.

It's an IGT 9/5 DDB $1 machine with 4 Aces, 2, 3, 4 Progressive.
The technician was asking another tech guy why everything on that
screen was set to SECONDARY!?
...just wondering if PRIMARY settings means that Full House is hit at
least once around 81 draws, for example.
while SECONDARY settings means Full House is hit around 85 or 90
draws and the same rules for 4-of-a-kind, etc...

LV machines must deal randomly. So there won't be alternate settings
that would affect frequency of hands hit. Expected hand frequencies
will be determined solely by the strategy employed by the
player/actual frequencies strictly player hold and luck of the draw.
My guess, taking a wing at the minimal info here, is that these
settings relate to the progressive meter(s) on the machine. (for
example, one possibility would be an indicator whether the machine is
stand-alone for the meter or if it's a linked progressive.)

Are machines in MS and LA random? I notice some of the machines say "based
upon 52 card deck..." or something similar. Some dont. Recently in Tunica, I played DB on machines that didnt indicate they were random. 5 hours and no 4oK. Went to another casino, noticed machines that in effect said they were random, hit about 6
4oK in 3 hours. (Including the special hand where I held a king, and received 4 aces).
Coincidence? Maybe, not a large sample. But enough make me avoid machines
that dont say.
In an attempt to resolve, I researched the MS state regs and found nothing specific.
In Nevada, of course, the regs do state they must be random. Have not checked the LA
regs. Based upon my play, they seem normal regardless.
I am curious to see what others think?

That's a pretty vague description of the operator screen showing.
Most likely it was the Progressive setup (there are about 5 different
options for linking progressive games) It could also be the SAS setup
(the main link to the systems controlling EZPAY, slot club,
hopperfills, etc) There are primary and secondary channels you can
choose for that. If you want to know more about IGT machines, they
are often selling manuals on ebay. I won't even discuss the
possibility that the games are gaffed.

Good possibility. Some linked progressives have two meters - a
primary and a secondary. For every coin played, a little bit gets
added to each meter. Some banks (like the old FPDW prog at Sante Fe
some years ago) showed both meters above the bank. While others (like
the FPDW/multigame at Silver Legacy) only show the primary meter (even
though there is a secondary behind it). If the primary meter is at
$1300, and the secondary is at $1100, when the RF gets hit the winner
gets the $1300 shown on the marquee. The new RF resets to what the
secondary meter was at ($1100). The secondary resets to $1000, and
both grow from there.
I have no idea whether this applies to the machine the poster
mentioned, but it is a scenario where the terms "primary" and
"secondary" would apply.

they might have options for markets where random isn't required by
law, though technically these options should not be available on a
nevada machine (in practice igt has a lot of pull in the state of
nevada)
they are making class II machines that look exactly like nevada
machines but are illegal in nevada because they are not random, how do
they keep these machines out of nevada? are they manufactured in
nevada?

"Bonus" may be a setting for tournaments (faster deal), demos
(nonrandom deal to show all possibilities), or promotions (eg. extra
$1000 on a Royal Flush). "Secondary" may mean secondary graphics
(eg. green background instead of blue), or short paytables (eg. 9/6DB
instead of 10/7).
I hope this helps.

Thanks for all the replies!
The Harrahs I was referring to here is the one affiliated with the
Indian casino in San Diego (Harrahs Rincon).
I'm not saying that those IGT machines are gaffed. Just wondering
why the settings are all SECONDARY and not PRIMARY and what the
differences are between these settings ...

Yes they are in both states.
In an attempt to resolve, I researched the MS state regs and found
nothing specific.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
From the MS Gambling Commission Regulations, Part IV, Section 4.C.2:
"For gaming devices that are representative of live gambling games,
the mathematical probability of a symbol or other element appearing
in a game outcome must be equal to the mathematical probability of
that symbol or element occurring in the live gambling game."
If I'm not mistaken, this is taken word for word from the Nevada
regulations.
