Posting Etiquette

This is the reason I have gone to NO MAIL so many times. It takes just too much time to wade through the redundant (sometimes 6 or more) postings to read the new text. If only people would get it I read it the first time. I usually come back to DIGEST a few months before a trip and go back to NO MAIL the day I fly out, IF I can endure it that long.

Maybe a weekly reminder from the admin would be a 'less than gestapo' solution?

As I wade through posts reacting to other posts that are then included
in their entirety, I cannot help thinking that it would be nice if a few
more people read and then followed the posting guidelines that are
listed in the VP FREE Rules and Policies. Number 3, in particular,
states: "When replying to messages, quote just enough of the previous
post to provide continuity. Clip the rest of the previous post."

I can do that. First edition:

vpFREE Posting Guidelines

EVERYONE SHOULD READ AND BE FAMILIAR WITH THE
vpFREE FAQ BEFORE POSTING A MESSAGE ON vpFREE

1. Every vpFREE message's subject line should accurately identify the
content of the message, to facilitate faster navigation by interested
or uninterested members.

2. If you reply to a message and change the subject matter, either
start a new thread (preferable) with a new subject line or rename the
subject line to reflect its new focus.

3. When replying to messages, quote just enough of the previous post to
maintain continuity. Delete the rest of the previous post.

4. When replying to messages, clearly differentiate the previous
message from your comments, so that it will be easy to identify who
wrote what.

5. If you have administrative problems, send a private email to the
Administrator, after you have checked the vpFREE Yahoo! Administrative
Problems Directory <http://members.cox.net/vpfree/Y.htm>.

6. Negative personal comments about, or criticism of, another member,
as perceived by the Administrator and regardless of circumstances isn't
tolerated on vpFREE. Violators are subject to having their posting
privileges revoked for some appropriate period of time. If you disagree
with someone, be objective, polite and impersonal (address the message
and don't mention or refer to the messenger).
