Posting Etiquette

As I wade through posts reacting to other posts that are then included
in their entirety, I cannot help thinking that it would be nice if a
few more people read and then followed the posting guidelines that are
listed in the VP FREE Rules and Policies. Number 3, in particular,
states: "When replying to messages, quote just enough of the previous
post to provide continuity. Clip the rest of the previous post."

The site should explain how to do this. In any othe reply fromm my
computer all I have to do is reply. With this system you have to
select a part of the message you are replying to. It took me a while
to figure out that selecting was recquired. Ray

Amen.

I've seriously considered using Gestapo like tactics
to police and enforce Rules #3 and #4, but I've always
been overruled by Ms. vpFREE.

Posting etiquette was developed when there were only a
few bytes available on machines. I'm on Yahoo and
have 20 megabytes of space. If the response is shown
first and then the rest of the previous entries
follow, I don't look at the rest unless I need to and
it's much, much, quicker!

Many group members receive VPFree postings in "digest" email form,
which are normally composed of 25 posts. To read each post, one must
scroll through the preceding message. If that preceding message
contains an untrimmed post, it could take several scrolls of the wheel
on the mouse....an unnecessary hassle.

Count me among the members who appreciate others who take the time to
trim a message prior to posting a response.

for folks who are on alot of groups, or on high traffic groups (like
this one) I cannot recommend enough signing up for a (free) gmail.com
account. gmail lines up each thread w/ responses so they can be read
all at once, AND duped text (when someone replys without trimming) is
hidden.

the EV is alot less mouse clicks and a few saved minutes a day.

Intriguing. Apparently, however, GMail (Google Mail) is still in beta
and access is restricted to a test group of users for now.

I have 50 invitations to GMail to hand out. If you are interested in opening an account, please send an email to my gmail account, sdbravo@gmail.com, and I will reply with an invitation to open an account. Please do not reply to the general list if you are interested.

I also have 50 invites, respond directly to fieldcommand@gmail.com .

I guess it is in 'beta' sort of, it's fully functioning though.
