post sanitization

vpFREE is being moderated this evening to enforce
compliance with my off-topic cease and desist request.

The following ROJ post adds to my gray hairs, but I'm
approving it because I think it's funny.

I am perfectly willing to abide by the wishes of Tom Sims (the
wishes of the board members at large being irrelevant) in not
discussing anything except nuts-and-bolts VP issues. This would mean
that excluded subjects should be, among others, discussions of:

casino restaurants
entertainment/shows
transportation/traffic issues
lodging tips/hints/reviews/bargains
sporting events
any other gambling games of any kind
weather
politics
trip reports that don't contain information that can be used to
modify the database
anecdotal VP posts that contain nothing of practical value
ANYTHING that won't directly help the newbies on this board to quit
their jobs and start living the VP high life

Since we seem to be willing to listen to the whining of a few
persons who just want VP infromation, PERIOD, (and who frequently
ask questions that can be answered by consulting the database), I
certainly hope that any post that is NOT 100% VP-oriented will be
met with the swift and savage retribution--and obliteration--they
deserve.

Of course, one could say that the actual test of whether a topic
belongs on a discussion board is whether people actually wind up
discussing it. If no one responds to a post, then a thread on that
subject won't build. But I realize this way of letting the board at
large decide what's inappropriate and what isn't smacks of that
ultimate evil, democracy.

From now on, therefore, I will abide by the rules!!!!!

Since Tom is the de facto elected governing
representative, I'd say the Board is a Representative
Republic and not a Democracy - - just like the good
ole USA!! Keep up the good work President Tom.

These last few weeks have been very pleasant,informative and constuctive on this board. There has been no name calling, labeling,or dart throwing. If I need an adrenaline rush I will drink fourty cups of coffee or E-mail privately the person who supplies the rush. Russ H.

Hi Russ,

I appreciate your point of view and really do think I understand how
you feel.

However, I also believe that Rock presented some interesting, even
though controversial ideas, and, in some instances, when his
intelligence outshown his verbose hyperbole, some posts of
constructive value.

I also am cognizant of the steel-edged sarcasm in some of Rock's
postings, to which some members of this forum seem to have taken
extreme umbrage. On the other hand, IMO, at least some of his sharp
verbiage was somewhat mitigated by his excellent sense of humor* and
writing skills. Therefore, I enjoyed reading his discourses on
various subjects (particularly when he was not weakening his case by
ranting) and found that I learned a thing or two, even when I was
not in agreement with the subject matter.

My POV, is that, I believe there should be room for the opinions of
all members of this forum, no matter how divergent from the
mainsteam or how controversial they may be. I also believe that when
one is vehemently opposed to the ideas of another, a POLITE
response can, and should be made, stating an opposing viewpoint.

In this way, an articulate discourse, illustrating different ideas
can be read, and commented on, by all interested parties. I truly
think that this can be accomplished, by mature adults, without
resorting to insulting one another.

As always, I welcome the comments of others.

Rock gave him some additional gray hairs, permitted
some "moderated" material, from Rock, to be posted because he
thought it made for humorous reading.

P.S. FORTY cups of coffee??? How could I doze off in my office
