poker in East Chicago

"vp_nbi" asked about poker in the East Chicago area and the $6 rake.

IT's true that $6 rake only occurs on pots of $60 or more. In Las Vegas , most casinos are $3 - $4. Also, Motor City has a bad beat jackpot that takes another $1. Let's say there is a hand where the blind call and there are 2 other callers besides myself. $25 before the flop. On the flop, bet, call, call , fold , fold. On the turn Bet call, call and the river is checked around. I win the $70 pot and pay $6 rake plus $1 bad beat plus $0.50 to the dealer. I put in $20 so I win $50. The rake is 12% of my winnings , bb is 4% and tip is 1% for a total of 17% of win. Tough to beat that game.

Harrahs EC is usually crowded and badly run. They tried a $7 rake for a while but it didn't last. Comps are a mystery.

Trump is cleaner, brighter and they comp either $0.50 or $1 per hour. That's where I play now.

Well yeah. It's not a full ring game. 5-10 games are usually not too
tight so sufficient chips should be getting kicked in by the other
players. If you can't find a full ring game that's sufficiently loose
you shouldn't play no matter what the rake. But in a playable game
you'd definitely be better off with the fixed $6 rake as opposed to
10%. Whatever happened to the good old days of 5% rakes?

Wholeheartedly agree about the cleaner & brighter. I was very
pleasantly surprised to discover Trumps is not at all like the typical
lung cancer smoke pit such as Hollywood. The smoke at Hollywood was a
primary factor in my indefinite sabbatical from Hollywood poker.
I played in Trump's Wednesday NL Hold Em all-in lottery for a couple
of weeks. I quickly remembered why I like freezeouts.

Comps for cash games is news to me. How does that work? You present
your Trumps card to the dealer upon being seated?

Do you play Omaha Hi/Lo? I inquired last time I was there and was told
they usually muster enough players only on a Saturday nite.
