Pocono Downs/Mohegan Sun/First day visit & commentary

Hello all....

I went to the new Mohegan Sun/Pocono Downs on opening day. I got there
around 4PM and didn't have much of a problem getting in at all. It is
about 45 minutes from home, so I was extremely curious in many respects.

I would venture to guess they have about 20-30 VP games on the floor
(a few Super Times Pay multi-play, $1 3/5 play, single line $1/2) and
a bartop with VP(these were multi dom, from 25 cents to $1, weird
version of bonus, 7/5 DB, 8/5DDB, JP, DW). I found 7/5 bonus poker
somewhere---

Although the schedules are not as attractive as AC, I have to admit
they are a heck of a LOT better than some of the crap I have seen down
in WV or other 'racinos'. For short term play, I am definately
dropping in here than take the 2.5 hour ride down to AC.

The slot machines were hitting frequently...I actually won a lot on
nickel and 2cent video multiline, again, everyone was getting frequent
hits, but low on 'bonus round' stuff. For those purists, if it were
not for the play on the slots, my VP would have wiped me out.

I didn't feel like waiting in line at the slot club booth, so don't
have details on that. I will post information about that when I return
and get myself signed up.

Another note---the employees, staff, management were incredibly
positive and it was a sincere pleasure to be around that attitude,
versus some of the grumps and blank stares normally associated with
AC. All the locals were excited that they had a place now to 'go to',
just standing around the bar while others played and having a drink,
people watching, etc. I truly believe this, along with probable Pocono
Manor site (huge, like Foxwoods), Phila waterfront, Chester, will
have an impact on the AC market. Anything within an hour's drive makes
it so easy to 'drop in' and drop a few bucks...and most people's bucks
are limited. All in all, I hope it will be a wake up call for them all
(AC)to bring in better schedules, payouts, promos etc.

Thanks for the report. I was going to ask a cousin in E. Stroudsburg
to check out the Vp, but she knows nothing about VP so I don't know
how good her report would be. It seems strange that the DDB would be
8/5 and DB 7/5. That would give almost 97% for DDB and less than 95%
for DB. Of course, that's still much better than WVA's 91.5% VP. I'm
anxious to see what the Pittsburgh casino and nearby racino, The
Meadows, offer when they open. With paytables like Pocono Downs I'd
be inclined to play the slots or not go at all.

I was there last night. I ran all the pay schedules through
WinPoker, and the best game I found was 98%. Most were in 95-97%
range.

The slot club gives points at the rate of 0.5% coin in. Points can
be exchanged dollar-per-point in the gift shop and in the
restaurants.

I know this is an old topic but it's the only one I could find that
was somewhat related.

Are these new Racinos in PA using actual random number generating VP
Games? It's not one of those "pre-determined" VP Games, is it?

From what I've heard, they are randomly dealt (Nevada
type machines) and have very poor paytables.
