Thanks Bill -
The poster in this case actually DID do his homework - the penalty
for wrong strategy playing 10/6 DDB isn't on 5-cards chart I don't
believe (although I'm a little less fearful of making yet another
mistake!) Maybe 10/6 SHOULD be added to the chart, it is afterall,
full-pay. But, we're just happy that 5-card has shared the info he
has, right? And thanks to Harry for answering the question properly.
Ironic that the poster owned the Frugal software, just hadn't figured
it out yet.
I just have recognized that folks like you and Harry and Tom (and
many others) are nice enough to answer a lot of "newbie"-type
questions, often month-after-month. Maybe you appreciate when
someone else jumps in with the answer, saving you a post. But I
realize the danger of inaccurate responses...
I had a situation (that I opted OUT of) come up with some friends:
occasional VP players. I had shared my enthusiasm for VP with them,
and found myself sharing strategy cards - my own versions
(fonts/short-hand that I liked, etc). With typos and my own
personalized short-cuts (lumping 3SF i w/0,1,2 Hi cards together just
for instance) included, they began to rely on me for updates, etc.
Anyhow, I came to realize that these folks could lose a bit of money
if they blindly followed my strategy sheets. I was extremely
uncomfortable with that possibility, despite my standard disclaimers,
so I've "cut the chord". I also felt they were becoming lazy about
doing their own homework.
You are so correct that finding things out for yourself drives it
home and there's so much info to be learned along the way.
But I wonder if anyone else posting info on strategy worries about
the accuracy and the possibility that someone will lose money if they
rely on that info. It probably drives authors like Dancer to be extra
careful on his strategy publications.. And software programmers must
go thru some very good beta tests.
Anyhow, more rambling. Thanks again Bill.

I know it's embarrassing to make mistakes, but we all do, so don't
worry
about it. As for your rant, I thought you did a nice job of
politely
pointing out that folks ought to try to dig up some answers on
their own
-- especially if you're a newbie and therefore apt to be asking
basic
questions. For one thing, working to find answers will generally
help
you remember them better, and folks will often discover other
