Playing using JOB strategy

<<<<< The cost of using wrong or different strategies are listed
here.>>>>>>>

Very interesting charts 5-card. I have run into a casino that has 10/6
DDB as the best game. Does anyone know the return using 10/7 DB or 9/6
JB strategy? ( I bought Frugal Video Poker but have not got around to
figuring out how to use it yet! )

I asked this same question about a year ago. I asked it about 9/6 DDB and
got this handy reply (thanks Randy Hudson):

if it's unretrievable, I have it cut & pasted in a folder, I can dredge it up.

you ask about 10/6 DDB, but according to Dancer's New Winner's Guide to
DDB, the strategy is the same for 9/6 DDB (give or take a few penalty cards
which are beyond me nyways). It's a DELTA to 9/6 JoB, NOT a delta to 10/
7DB.

Soap box:
  New posters seem to ask loaded basic questions, and it is obvious they want
a short-cut, quick answer if it will save them "doing their homework". Hey,
may as well try. That was me a year ago. The stock answers are often:
(1) Don't play that game- it's not full-pay.
(2) Run the software yourself.
(3) Buy a book or a strategy card.
(4) Search the vpfree database or links
(5) Search the vpfree messages for the same question/subject

Most folks get tired of repeating their answers every month or so. Tom, the
moderator, has incredible patience to answer with a link to another vpFree
page for questions like, "I'm going to this casino. They got any good VP
there?" I guess, in a nutshell, I think posters should "Do your homework
before asking to get spoonfed answers!"

Realize also that strategy -type questions like the one in this post, do not have
simple answers, and there is a danger that some short-cuts don't hold true in
all situations, as you head toward that Perfect Strategy. (Standard
disclaimers).

That being said, there are many levels of expertise represented here, and I'm
sure my questions will come across as rookie questions to some people.
even after a couple of years.

How embarrassing - john asked for the penalty for using 9/6 JoB strategy on
10/6 DDB. I answered something totally different and then ranted about silly
questions. Ugh.
And I don't know the answer to joh's question about "wrong strategy".
Red-faced, but continuing on my WRONG answer:
Here's that cut & paste:

    So, starting with 9-6 JoB, strategy changes when changing to DDB include:

    hold a 4-card inside straight instead of redraw;
    hold just a lone Ace instead of AK, AQ, AJ;
    hold just a lone Ace instead of the two face cards from AKQ or AKJ;
    hold a 4-card inside straight with two high cards;
    hold a 4-card outside straight with at least one high card instead of mid pair;
    hold a pair of aces instead of two pair;
    hold trip aces instead of full house;
    hold kicker if A,2,3,4, but redraw others, when dealt quads.

    There are other changes, but most of them depend on RF jackpot level.

The prospects aren't bright.

You're looking at a 99.40% ER using 10/7 DB strategy and 99.59% with
9/6 JB.

I know it's embarrassing to make mistakes, but we all do, so don't worry about it. As for your rant, I thought you did a nice job of politely pointing out that folks ought to try to dig up some answers on their own -- especially if you're a newbie and therefore apt to be asking basic questions. For one thing, working to find answers will generally help you remember them better, and folks will often discover other useful information in the process of doing some research.

Cheers.

Thanks Bill -
  The poster in this case actually DID do his homework - the penalty
for wrong strategy playing 10/6 DDB isn't on 5-cards chart I don't
believe (although I'm a little less fearful of making yet another
mistake!) Maybe 10/6 SHOULD be added to the chart, it is afterall,
full-pay. But, we're just happy that 5-card has shared the info he
has, right? And thanks to Harry for answering the question properly.
Ironic that the poster owned the Frugal software, just hadn't figured
it out yet.

I just have recognized that folks like you and Harry and Tom (and
many others) are nice enough to answer a lot of "newbie"-type
questions, often month-after-month. Maybe you appreciate when
someone else jumps in with the answer, saving you a post. But I
realize the danger of inaccurate responses...

I had a situation (that I opted OUT of) come up with some friends:
occasional VP players. I had shared my enthusiasm for VP with them,
and found myself sharing strategy cards - my own versions
(fonts/short-hand that I liked, etc). With typos and my own
personalized short-cuts (lumping 3SF i w/0,1,2 Hi cards together just
for instance) included, they began to rely on me for updates, etc.
Anyhow, I came to realize that these folks could lose a bit of money
if they blindly followed my strategy sheets. I was extremely
uncomfortable with that possibility, despite my standard disclaimers,
so I've "cut the chord". I also felt they were becoming lazy about
doing their own homework.

You are so correct that finding things out for yourself drives it
home and there's so much info to be learned along the way.

But I wonder if anyone else posting info on strategy worries about
the accuracy and the possibility that someone will lose money if they
rely on that info. It probably drives authors like Dancer to be extra
careful on his strategy publications.. And software programmers must
go thru some very good beta tests.

Anyhow, more rambling. Thanks again Bill.
