I accept that we shouldn't question what others do, especially when
their actions contribute to the casino's bottom line. In theory, they
enable the casino to afford to offer video poker games that
reasonably competent players can play successfully.
Still, when I see what I saw at Rama last night, I almost want to cry.
There was a lady at the triple/five play video poker machines sitting
proudly in front of her dealt Royal Flush. She was playing triple
line, so, obviously, had three royals. She was playing three coins
per line. I guess I can understand her happiness at getting a
$562.50 payoff on her $2.25 wager. I resisted the urge to point out
that for slightly more than triple her bet, she would have received
over ten times the payout.
Then, while waiting for the dinner line at the Weirs to shorten, I
sat down and played triple line at the full 10 coin per line that I
always play, dropped $300 in about half an hour, never being dealt
more than a straight (and that only once), and wanted to cry some
more.
