Playing a variety of VP games

Hey,

Does anyone else out there find it difficult to play and switch
between different games and keep the strategies straight ? Maybe, I'm
alone but I find it very hard to do. Does it take years and years of
playing and practicing to be able to do so ? OR....... maybe my brain
just isn't wired for more than one game at a time.

Thanks,

Nita

I have addressed this question in the past and I emphasize it very strongly in my upcoming VP book. You are NOT alone. I believe one of the reasons so many recreational players are losing, even if they are doing 100%+ plays, is that they switch games too often and their accuracy % goes way down.

Even with 16 years of VP experience, Brad and I have to be VERY careful, especially when we switch to a game we haven't played for awhile. I suggest people practice some on VP software before they go back to an "old" game. If that isn't possible, you can do as we do: play together, only on one machine for a few minutes to "get into the mindset" of the new game.

You need to stay very concentrated - or you will unconsciously hold 2 unsuited high cards on a deuce game if you have been playing JoB!!!!

Thanks Jean and Brian !

I have only been playing Vp for a couple of years and have tried to learn strategies for one game at time before moving on to another game. To date, those only include JOB, DW , and DDB. I have never tried switching games while playing for real money in the casino b/c I tried it first on the computer at home. Seeing those results ..... keeps me from switching games in the casino !! Therefore, I select one game to play in the casino and refresh my skills on that ONE game before going to play. At this point, I just can't feel confident in switching games even though that really limits me while at a casino. I just find myself making too many stupid mistakes when I try switching modes at home so I don't dare in the casino. My hat is off to those who can do so successfully !! Maybe that will be in the cards for me someday with more experience.

  Thanks,

I've been playing since the 80s. JOB and DB I play perfect. At one
time, FPDW and Loose Deuce - - Perfect. Now I spend maybe a week or
two in Vegas. So I get rusty on Loose and full pay Deuces. Why practice
if I'm not going to play them for 6 months. Full pay Deuces are not
always on my list of places I intend to play at when I visit Vegas. To
make things worse, I used to play a lot of Double Joker AC. All of the
strategies seem to blend together if you haven't played them for a
while. At least, in my case. It seems NSUD is around a lot in Vegas,
but I don't know the game so I don't play it. I figure it's better to
play a game I know, JOB at a lower payback, than to play a better game
that I will be sure to play below 100%. Of course, Loose Deuce with ok
paytables is available at some of the places I play. So that would be
part of the games I play.

How do I keep things straight? I plan my trip. I have a good idea what
games I will be playing and I practice them for a couple weeks before I
go. I will even play games I play perfect. Just to make sure. Before I
leave I'm ready and playing the rusty games over 99% and if I slow down
I can hold 100%.

To me the best help is have a cheat sheet.(strategy card) When first
playing game that I haven't played for a while I play slow and check
each play with the sheet, if not 100% sure of play. 20 minutes playing
and checking and your on your way; new game mode. By the way, I carry
strategy cards always. I've made them for games I don't play but have
considered playing. I carry sizes from credit card size to full page.
They are part of my casino packet.

Cheers......Jeep

If I immediately switch from one game to another with no time in
between, then yes I have to really concentrate to make sure I don't
make some bonehead play like holding a lone deuce in Jacks or Better.
But this would be a rare situation for me personally. Normally there
will be one best game in any particular casino to play. So changing
games normally means that I will be moving to a different casino. By
the time I get to a different casino, I have had time to mentally
switch to the new game.

Hi Nita.

If you play 9/6 JOB at a high level of accuracy, you can use the same
strategy on 8/5 Bonus Poker with very little loss of EV. Running it
through Frugal Video Poker indicates 8/5 Bonus Poker has a five-coin EV
of 99.164319% and using the JOB strategy while playing it has an EV of
99.161261%.

So you could at least add one more game without any more work!

I agree with your overall premise however that is difficult to shift
gears to play a vastly different game especially after an extended
period of time on one version of the game.
