Lots of open seats. A woman was sitting two seats to my left with no one
sitting next to her on either side. I was smoking (I always leave my
cigarettes and matches in plain view). A second woman (the first woman's
friend) arrives and sits between us. A few minutes later she asks me to
move my ashtray away (it was on my right!!) I wanted to ask her, "It's
obvious I'm smoking -- why don't you sit on the other seat next to your
friend?" (I moved my ashtray an inch or two, and the two women left soon
after.) Moral: if you don't like smokers, don't sit next to one,
especially since they were there first!
While I agree, can someone explain to me why the only remaining full-play machine is always next to the already-seated smoker, so my decision is smoke vs short-pay vs no-play?
All I ever ask is that they smoke with the hand opposite me; it does make a small difference, since if they hold the cig in the hand next to me, and are mostly playing rather than smoking, depending on which way the wind is blowing, I might end up smoking more than the smoker.
