Just a quick note about M Resorts free buffet w/ sign-up promo.

I know it's not mentioned in this weeks Player's Edge, but I know the ACG's "on going July promotions" has what I'm referring to....

We ran out to give it a try today and it was NOT being honored. The only thing they were giving for sign-up today was $5.00 free play or a T-shirt.

We said the heck with it and did not sign up.....drove to Silverton and had a great lunch before our flight back to KC.

Not for sure if they weren't giving the free buffet due to the weekend or what, but it was quite busy.

Unfortunately, this was inevitable! I was at the M last week,
when they were still offering the free buffet to every new
card club sign-up. The lines at the M card desk filled with
people waiting to sign up, were daunting. I personally observed
many families on line, and watched as the mother, father, grandparents and adult siblings all signed up for a card in oder
to receive a free buffet. Perhaps no one in the family gambled
in the casino after enjoying the buffet. This would certainly be
a costly promotion for the M.

I believe that this could have been avoided by restricting the buffet to those who put some minimum number of points on their
card. Doing that might have produced enough profit for the casino
that they could continue to offer free buffets to those who play
enough to earn them.

After I read this post, I called the M. The OP was correct. Presently, new sign-ups are only eligible for a T-shirt or $5.00
in FP. Formally, with free buffet, it was $10.00. However, since
the regular dinner buffet cost $22.95, I believe that most
sign-ups selected the buffet option. I also learned that some
mailers were sent out, to a select list, offering the free buffet.
I assume that offer was only sent to M players who had a history there.

Just my luck. I will be in LV 7/79 and was looking forward to going to the M for the first time. They always seem to stop just before I get to them!

The buffets are honestly worth paying for with cash or points, or
possibly a host issued comp.

However, if your next trip is not until 2079, Marnell may have
decided to reinstate the free offer by that time! {{O:

Good luck and fun times on your LV trip!

Correction: Visit is 7/29/2009. I'm approaching 70 and will likely not make 2079:-)

I hate those typos when I don't review before hitting send!

Jean Scott had a blog in June on Frugal but not Cheap and mentioned "sparking" wine. I'm sure she meant "sparkling" but since sparking is a word, spellcheck won't catch it. I commented that I'm approaching 70 and needed some of that sparking wine and does it work?

You could be my younger brother!

The way VP is headed these days, I can envision a new thread on
the board lamenting the loss of the last 5/4 DDB machine at the M!

Me too, but I still make them all the time. It's usually happens
due to being too busy to review every word, and too impatient to
get my message posted.

Being familiar with Jean's writing, she might have MEANT sparking!
Perhaps it was Brad's idea! {{O:

Anyway, it's nice that there's still a bit of life in some of us
old folks!

That's how I felt when, on the sign at the Bourbon Street years ago,
they advertised "loose sluts." I wanted to go in and make sure they
meant "loose slots," but my girlfriend didn't like the idea.

For the record, isn't that redundant?

It's kind of like "good success."
