Speaking from my own experience, I flopped a royal twice in 2003 (VERY
early in my "informed" play history and while a much more infrequent
player), and nailed another much rarer royal from a 5-card draw the
same year.
I've seen nothing so spectacular since. I'm beginning to suspect I
might run your 15 years before being dealt a royal again.
I have a dear friend who lately seems to see dealt royals like
clockwork (well, modestly ahead of time against a 650K hand clock).
I'm sorry to say that I'm a little green with envy with his recent
3-play hit
Two hits that I consider the nirvana of vp are such a
multiplay deal and a royal hit from a lone held 10 (there are a couple
of games where that can be a correct hold).
- Harry
and a royal hit from a lone held 10 (there are a couple
of games where that can be a correct hold).
Which games/situations would that be?

In one-eyed jacks with no wild, it's the correct hold. Maybe Dick can
explain why.

Tens or Better or Two Pair or Better (without wild cards) and Joker's
Wild come to mind.
Also JWD (assuming no flush or straight penalty cards are discarded)

Same logic as in the other two pair or better games already mentioned.
In general this kind of situation arises when a complete redeal has a
very low return.
I know a couple of OEJs players who have hit royals holding only a ten.
I have hit wild royals and 5oaks but never the royal.

I've been in LV since the end of August of 2006, and have been playing
fairly steadily since then. I got back into gambling in 2002, playing
very infrequently in AC or the occasional trip to Foxwoods, Mohegan,
or here. Usually, while in AC if I weren't staying overnight I'd only
play vp for about 1-1/2 hours and then go do something else.
Thanx for your congrats. The nicest thing about getting the RF was
when the cards came out the Hold buttons automatically lit up.
Imagine getting dealt a RF and accidentally missing pushing a hold
button before pressing Draw to complete the hand!
Sorry it took so long to respond, but my wireless connection was out
for a day-and-a-half.

Regarding the "imagined loss of a dealt royal"..
That would be scary. I hope I have made all of my major mistakes.
The biggest was being dealt four fives on a nickel machine. I missed
one of the fives!! In my defense, it was about four in the morning
and I had been playing for about 12 hours. This happend about a
decade ago, now the worst that happens is seeing a minor mistake just
as I hit the deal button. This usually is the result of playing too
fast..
Thanks for the reply...

I've never seen a casino supervisor refuse to make up a player's loss
on the kind of mistake in which discarding a card couldn't have helped
the hand. If you had stopped playing and told them what had happened,
you probably would have been paid for your 4 5s.
