I just got back from a Vegas trip, staying at the LV Hilton from June 3 - June 9. There was good news and bad news. The good news was I had three royals on the trip. It started off with a bang. When I arrived Saturday, within 10 minutes I hit the first royal (held four and drew one) on a $.25 machine in the Sportsbook. About three hours later, I hit a $1 royal (held three and drew two) on the machines just the other side of the wall of the poker room. A couple days later I hit my third (held four and drew one) on a $.25 NSUD at Caesars. I also hit four deuces three times on the NSUD at the Hilton. While I played many hours a day over the whole trip, that is still more than I could have hoped for. Maybe June is my month. Last year, I also hit three royals on my June trip. I also made Diamond in a day at Caesars, playing three, five and ten play machines.
The bad news was that I was there for the elimination of the Pick'Em machines in both bars at the Hilton. First, we basically got thrown off the machines at the Sportsbook bar so they could start taking out those machines. I hit one last four-of-a-kind before they shut them down. There was a guy there who must have played those machines quite a bit and wanted to be the last one to play the machines. Actually, it was kind of interesting. We were the last two playing them and we are both named Bob and the two bartenders were Robert and Bobby. Then two days later they took out the machines at the Spacequest Bar. I spent a good last couple of hours playing Pick'Em and listening to Sam's jokes. While I do not remember exactly what games they had on the new machines, I know that Pick'Em is gone.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Hilton. I have stayed there several times and found the people nice and can usually make out okay in terms of comps. I also don't mind taking the monorail when I go down to the strip. The temperature hit about 108 outside and it seemed like 58 inside. I guess they didn't want us falling asleep. Periodically I had to go outside to warm up. It was so cold, that despite the 108 temperature, I had to order soup for lunch at Caesars. I will be back in just a few weeks since we received a flyer for the Fourth of July celebration so this time I am going with my wife (this was a solo trip that I just returned from).
Probably the wierdest thing on the trip was the woman playing video poker next to me at Caesars. She was playing with her elbows since all ten of her finger nails were at least two feet long (seriously)! Many people stopped to ask her about them and asked to have their picture taken with her. I believe she said they were real and she had not cut her nails in twelve years. They were all painted pretty fancy, which must have cost quite a pretty penny.
I also made a quick stop to see Big Elvis at the Barbary Coast. The lounge was packed as usual.
