My problem is that the RF is about 10 times less likely than most other
games. Even though it's 99.95 EBV seems attractive, if you never hit a
royal (or
a SF) then, it's not so good...
In the year since I've switched to Pick 'Em, I've had several straight
flushes in dimes and quarters and one on a dollar machine. I suppose I've been
"over-served" on straight flushes, so it makes up for a lack of Royals over a
couple hundred thousand hands. I find it amusing to see some of the "short
pay" versions that boost up the Royal to 10,000 units...a pretty safe move, as
it might as well be 10,000,000 if the odds are that you're never going to hit
it.
They've got FP Pick 'Em at various denominations at all five of the "major"
casinos here in Elko, so I've concentrated my play in that direction for
quite some time (except for some occasional play at the 3-line 9/6 JB machine at
the Commercial), and have noted that my overall return has improved greatly
over the year before. It's a good way to make the money last a little longer
(my record was 6 hours on a $20), but the slowness of the Gamemakers is a
little irritating (550 hands per hour seems to be about the physical limit of the
machines). Despite what some folks have written here, there IS strategy
involved with perfect play and isn't like a Keno or slot machine that you can
play accurately without regard to your blood alcohol level.
I agree that you need to be careful when playing the faster "new design"
machines...in particular the 20-coin models where the one "hold" button also
doubles as the "bet max" button.
