Hey, I'm not offended at all. Your post really did not ask specific
questions, but you sort of said you did not like those games,
something to which you are completely entitled to. Now I see you are
curious about what the attraction of those games is. Well, there is
this Bob Dancer article recently on Strictly Slots about three games
including Pick-a-Pair

Pick-a-pair is the same as Pick'em, except it comes with more games,
including Deuces. I read that Borgata in AC has the Deuces game. Its
return could be one of the two BD mentions, 99.42% and 98.7%. I have
never played Pick-a-Pair, but want to.
In Las Vegas for a long time Bally's had Pick'em, the full pay
version, in dollars, half-dollars and quarters. Those machines were
terribly popular, you could not get to play one in quarters, even
during the week, they were always busy. Some people find Pick'em the
most boring game there is, but I have read posts from people who in
spite of finding the game terribly boring, play it for hours and
hours. I'll tell you what I like it. I like the middle Strip, I like
those big high tech resorts with very good ventilation. Thus whenever
there I used to make a little walk to Bally's or Paris and play
Pick'em for a long time. The Royal pays 6000 coins and the Quad 600
coins. Get a machine in a frequent Quad cycle, and it is much more
fun than Bonus DeLuxe, even though this last one is more challenging
as far as memorizing a strategy. The simplicity and boredom of
Pick'em can be an asset to the game on days you don't want to think.
Of course, on those days just pick numbers on a Keno machine and just
push replay bet, that's best :).
Multi-Strike is the complete opposite of Pick'em, it has a very
complicated strategy. No matter what game you play in it, you have to
memorize four strategies. The one you play on the top line you
probably know, it is the one you play on the base game. If you like
challenging games, then playing this one perfectly is it. By the way,
it is to your advantage to learn all the strategies, it adds return
to the game, long term. I hardly ever play plain Multi-Strike anymore
ever since they came out with Five Play Multi-Strike, which is the
same game on a five play platform. If you have never played this

Going back to your post, I just did not want to go into a long reply
and thus posted the latin quotation, maybe vppappy knows if it is
from Nero or from Petronius or from someone else or from no one in
particular. Depending on who is it from, my reply could be
interpreted differently :). I just meant that different people like
different things, and that is that. Now, I was puzzled by your post.
Everyone without exception that I have given the link above, has
become practically addicted to Five Play Multi-Strike and they find
it fun. Its virtues are that it is indeed fun, and that you can hit
an $8K Royal playing quarters. Its problem is that it is very
volatile. You can at Mirage, for example, play it in nickels or two
cents denomination, but the pay tables there are not great. As much
as I like this game, I play it only if it is paying me from the
start. I have read about people dumping thousands and thousands of
dollars, and I just don't like to do that. I won't say more, since
then I will be going against the accepted way of playing here in this
message board, which is for the long term, best machines, maximize
EV, etc., etc. Okay, do that if you want. I walk away from the
machine if it just makes me open the wallet too often, let's leave it
at that.
I have reread your post, and if you played Pick'em at Harrahs in AC,
then you played the short return version. The version you played
probably pays 10,000 coins for a Royal; that looks nice, but the full
pay version pays 6,000 coins for a Royal. Bally's in AC has this
game, full pay, in quarters. The shor pay takes your money too fast.
The short return version is to be completely avoided. Caesars in AC
has this game with the short paytable; to me those machines are the
same as invisible, I never play them.

I personally would never condemn anybody for the game that they
choose to play....it's a personal choice that we all have to make.
