Last weekend, I took a Peppermill junket from Monterey to Reno courtesy of Gamblers Express.
I reported earlier that my mail from Peppermill stopped about 5 years ago & my comp-earning rate was lowered to just about nothing. The news is that there are changes at Peppermill, mostly for the better but before you get too excited, the change in my comp-earning rate is now nothing. I am able to earn tier points but 10 hours of play on quarter 5-play came to zero on comps. So what good are tier points? Well at least, I can maintain my card level, right?
OK, enough crying, here are the facts:
–Junket was from Monterey on an MD-80 which was sold out, capacity 130+.
–I brought a friend: I got an Imperial Suite &, surprisingly he got a nice standard room too even though we hadn’t asked for one.
–It looks like there are several junkets from Monterey lined up about every 2 months.
–Casino & rooms seemed to be filled.
–Peppermill is still the upper class of Reno. They have done upgrades & added nice little touches like USB stations in the rooms & enough outlets. Rooms are not tired like Harrahs where one look at floor can tell you which century the carpet was laid down. This is one of the places where I like staying in the room.
–Gaming inventory is still plenty fair & table limits are lowered at appropriate times for those who want to play lower & then grandfathered for those who continue on. Lots of good VP & a lot more Pai Gow tables than what I remember.
–Restaurants & sports deli - still good food but prices have increased by a few $
–Senior discounts: none. Toss your old 55+ cards. Other coupons: very little book for guests. Nothing worthwhile IMO.
Will I go back? Yeah. But I know it wasn’t Peppermill who comped me those rooms.
