I don't think running the game with a value of 19 on the flush and
double the payouts on everything else will work because flush cards
will gain a huge value while other types of hands won't. I think the
results will be skewered.

Why would the flush gain a "huge value" compared to the other doubled
payoffs? You might give this issue maybe another night to sleep on. Sure the ER is
doubled.

Jeff came up with 100.044% for a 9 value flush, I came up with a 200.0877%
with a 18 flush and double everything else...with the paytable stated.

Both paytables coughed up these frequencies-

Flush- once every 56.07841 hands
Royal- once every 45,037.87 hands
Nada- once every 1.730998 hands on Winpoker

I am more of a three significant digit-slide rule/ballpark guy...so all these
digits give me a headache. What is apparent though, is going from 9 to 9.5
to 10 for a flush does change the optimal strategy.

At 19 a Flush frequency is 55.64212

At 20 a Flush frequency is 55.00961

My main issue is trying to grasp that a homogenius strategy through the cycle
of Flushes playing FA is my best bet. I still can't fathom yet that this is
optimal for EV over time.

I read the Wizard of Odds analysis of Shockwave Poker where quads are the
issue. Doesn't his expanation of Shockwave imply two distinct enhanced quad
strategies are optimal? One for "off', and one for "on"?

Hey, Mickeycrimm and others, I am not arguing with anybody. I am just trying
to grasp a concept, sort of like in a BD Casinogaming column.

My main play at the Pioneer is putting in my 800 hands ($1k of action) to get
my two comped Getaway Nights for next time. I usually do it playing the
quarter Bally Gamemakers (9/6 Jacks) in the Sassy Sue's Bar overlooking the river.

Mickey...Sassy Sue's does not have Moose Drool on tap at this time. This
brown ale made in Montana by Big Sky brewing has not made it into the twelve new
tappers. You will have to suffer with the likes of Kona Fire Rock Pale or
Stone's Arrogant Bastard Ale. That is my main play for the Pioneer. Some folks
from California even ask for the Belgium Chimay Trippel.

If this works, and it appears that it does, then you've taught this
old dog a new trick.

My main issue is trying to grasp that a homogenius strategy through

the cycle

of Flushes playing FA is my best bet. I still can't fathom yet

that this is

optimal for EV over time.

Back in late 1996, I went by Gambler's General Store in Las Vegas and
bought two books: Precision Play and The Best of Video Poker Times.
Both written by Dan Paymar. It was in The Best of Video Poker Times
that I read about Flush Attack. I started playing the game in early
97. Dan explains the concept of Flush Attack strategy much better
than I can. So I would defer to him on this issue. I still have a
vintage Dan Paymar Flush Attack strategy card somewhere in storage.
And I also have in storage All The Best of Video Poker Times which
also includes his flush attack article plus the strategy to the
game. In the Article Dan shows mathematically why one should use a
compromise strategy instead of two different strategies for the
game. He wrote about the game where the flush averages to ten and
coined the name "Flush 50" for the strategy. It basically means the
strategy is predicated on a flush value of fifty coins.

Those two little books were the best investment I ever made in my
life. I estimate I made $180,000 sweeping unlinked flush attacks
over about a five year peiod. I didn't do it full time either. Just
when I needed the money. And there were other plays I learned from
Dan's books.

Most of those plays are dead now, but it's the concepts that are
important. When you know the concepts you are prepared for any
eventuality. You never know what might pop up.

Gray, is that flush attack machine in the river bar? If it is there
were also two Maxx down there. I haven't been to Laughlin in over
five years. If they are still there it could add to your
expectation. The Maxx is the same principle as flush attack but it
involves four-of-a-kinds. Here's the payscale: RF 800 SF 50 4K
25/125 FH 9 FL 7 ST 4 3K 3 TP l HP l. The first quad pays 125 coins,
then a light comes on the top of the screen that says MAXX. The next
quads pays 625 coins. If you find it in bonus mode it's around a 10%
or 11% percent overlay I think. You could analyze it to find out.
But if you are gonna be down there playing flush attack you might as
well pick up the Maxx plays too.

I haven't had a reason to return to Laughlin in five years but you
may have just given me one.
